Going from a 318 to slant in my truck. The engine is out of a boat. Has a 2bbl intake and carb and comes with a set of automotive headers...plus all the boat exhaust and accessories!

I see not much response here! From what I have read it seems to be a forged crank block. On the intake I do not remember seeing an EGR provision or anything....does this sound right?

Well, the guy I got the engine from said it was a runner..HE LIED! It was froze up solid. I pulled the head only to fin on of the cylinders had rusted. Cleaned out the rust, the oil pan had mixed water/oil,drained that, disassembled the engine and it is now at the machine shop.
Going to have it baked and magged, valve job on head, crank reground...which BTW also had a spun rod bearing.
Kinda pisssed, but if it turns out to be cracked, I will sell all the extras and move on to another set-up.

I just saw this. If you have the boat manifold and that exhaust your showing you are ahead of the game I'd say.

A good running slant shouldn't be more than $400 somewhere, and you have a set of homemade dual headers it looks like and a 2bbl intake, you're well on your way to having a supersix. If it turns out to be cracked, I wouldn't worry about trying to deal with a slant with that many problems especially when they're widely available. But if you plan on doing a slant, keep the intake, exhaust and let the rest go if it's that poor off.

Also from what I understand, boat intake manifolds do not have the EGR opening on the side. It still works and saves you the trouble of getting an EGR block off plate.

Sorry to hear about the DOA engine. You do have the water heated intake manifold (use the water heat - don't ignore it) and headers which are a big plus. Looks like a really nice setup for a D100. I'm trying to get a older D100 with a slant six - and will be doing some slant six upgrades ;-) With your headers and manifold - looks like you can boost the already good slant 6 torque up a bit . . . .

Hey thanks guys. Unfortunately I do not have the water box for the intake..maybe I can make one. But I also just picked up another 80's D150 shortbed fleetside with a 225/NP833a for $350. I will be using the engine and trans and all the required parts to put it into my '74...then sell/scrap the rest.

Got a call from the machine shop, the block is good, head is good but needs 6 exhaust seats and exhaust guides and surfaced. The crank will definitely need to be ground .010/.010.
So I will pick it up on Saturday since I just bought the '81 shortbed dodge with 225/np833a for $300. I will take my time with this build up.

That's a good deal on the truck. I looked at a '74 long bed with non OD 833 replaced the original 3 speed. Seller claims the 225 has a burned valve. All tires are ruined and the dash pad is gone - removed. The asking price is $2,500. Its not a bad looking body, but its been parked for 17 years.
