YES it was a slant six!!!Immediately noticed strange factory looking heat shield below carb..Could any of us benefit from this interesting little gizmo??? I used to think my BBS's{super sixes} went bad from warping of the top side of carb...whaddya think ???

I remember the 72-76 newports being absolute monsters, is the 79 as big? I wonder what a slant was doing in it

I wonder if the heat shield is there to stop the carb from flooding when the engine is stopped? I am thinking of trying a heat shield under my BBS to see if it will reduce the flooding from heat when shut off.

OH yeah, there was one for sale in the Canadiana and Automobile museum not too long ago for $1800 it was mint. That's a big car to have a slant in it, still.

Hmmm, I knew the StRegis and Fury had the slant as standard equipment, I didn't know the Newport used them also... :?: They are nice looking cars, especially the ex police models (yes, Chrysler had a police package Newport in '80) without the vynil tops and police rims.
