I've put this table together based on a bunch of different sources in order to help my challenged memory keep track of all these variations.
Q1. Is this chart format helpful to anyone else out there?
Q2. What errors does the chart currently have?
Q3. Any significant omissions?

You might want to include a color bar for hydraulic lifter engines, and maybe identify the dark green bars in the head graph.

I can forward you some additional info. to add.
You may want to add a note that all head combustion chambers are appx 54cc ( usually bigger)

Looks good, nice handy referance!

I like it! This goes beyond the head and the block, but you might want to include other sections for electronic ignition, alternator sizes, and maybe even super six options.

Probably could add 4027598/4027600 which is a 225 head for 1975-1976 that's cast without the smog pump hole in the back, otherwise it's the same casting as the "447" head.

Like the chart, it's very useful. awesome coalation of data.

This is great! Can Doc or Chuck add to the articles section? This needs to be somewhat visible as it contains some very hard to find information.

The encouragement has motivated me to continue. . . thx guys. My intention was to create a 1 page reference sheet (potrait orientation) that could be taken to parts stores, swap meets, wrecking yard trips, etc to help us get what we're looking for. The beauty of the web is that we can consolidate widely dispursed knowledge and keep it current. I am not the expert, just the consolidater of data. The info is not perfect but as collective feedback is received, successive iterations will improve. Chuck, could we drop this in the "Articles" section?
As usual, a great amount of info has come from the non-medical doctor . . .

The table below has changes in the following areas:
1. sections added for rods, induction and ignition
2. more notes have been added in each section
3. more details are in the head section

Great work Al,
I will send you some comments / fine tuning info.
Everyone, Please give input, especially if you know years offered and P/N (= "book" numbers)or better yet, casting / forging numbers found on the parts. Get out and look at parts you have on hand and see if the number on the part matches Al's chart.
Al is doing us a great service by "spearheading" this effort so please help out if you can.

I agree. A few things I would add/subtract:

1) "Aluminum 170" block? Not outside the engineering test labs! This didn't make it into series production.

2) Aluminum intake manifold, 1B, 1947164, for 1960 production

3) Camshafts?

My block doesn't have a casting number. It's a forged crank but it has the tapered water pump support and solid lifters. I don't know where it came from.

One of the strange "real late" forged crank engines, is there a p/n stamped along the lifter galley "rail" towards the back?

I have seen these 030-x blocks in the yards but have never built one, it does have the extra ribbing so my guess is that it is much like the "BH" & "AM" castings.

I agree that the chart is great! Posting it in the articles section would be great also. I wasn't able to print it though ? I'm always able to print the pictures in the posts, but I could not get this to print.

I can't see the chart, broken link? I have a 1960 head, it has no alternator bracket hole under stat housing, just for reference. My early block had a casting number that was very hard to find also.

Crankshaft balancing: is it even needed in straight 6 cylinder app? I have read 4 cyls are set balancing as long as reciprocating weights are kept equal but they only have 1 plane cranks compared to a slants 3 plane. Pretty expensive for a budget build ~ $125 minus heavy tungsten metal slugs.
