I am checking a stock crank today and measured the distance between the thrust faces; this is for an early 225 crankshaft (1962). I got a distance of 1.2605 but cannot find a spec for this. Can anyone provide this info? Thanks in advance, Mark B.

I am finding the max. length of the thrust bearing to be listed as 1.255" in a TRW engine bearing book if that helps. So theoretically, you would have .0055" of thrust with the measurement you provided.

That does help; I figured I needed a grinding service book or something like that, which I cannot find. The thrust faces on the #3 bearing are all beat up so I was concerned on this crank. Thank you very much!

Manual or automatic trans? (manuals are "harder" on the thrust bearing)
Any signs that the front damper was improperly installed? (look for hammer marks)

Manual trans, sir. So you could be on the money. Have not had time to check the pilot bushing yet....

No hammer or unusual marks that we have observed; just the pulley out of alignment on one side so that the plane of the pulley is not quite perpendicular to the axis of the crank. Considering the timing chain slack of 4-5 degrees in cam timing, the old looking seal, knowing the car's whole history (no overhauls) and the general filth in the area, I suspect the pulley has never been off.

Rubber does not look bad at first glance, which I expected on a 52 yo damper, but I need to get a magnifying glass on it.

I'll try to straighten it out and see if the rubber is loose or not.

... I have some good used dampers, if you need a replacement.
