I ordered a '76 slant six distributor from RockAuto, an Autoline model, without Canadian emissions. It is model D-619, see tag.

I took it apart and was surprised to find that they use the super six governer in it, see slot on it (on left), vs actual super six dizzy (on right) that I'm rebuilding.

The vacuum can was also correct, I believe, because it has "11.OR" stamped on the arm, not 8.5. It appears they're rebuilding old cans, as mine has a new finish over pitted surface; as if they cleaned up an old one and re-anodized it.

So, it looks like one only need order one of these distributors, and swap out the heavy spring to have a super six governered distributor!

I was under the impression that these governer's weren't commercially available. Am I right or was it just the aluminum bodies from the super six dizzy that people covet?

The cap and rotor that comes with the D-619 is crap (thin, cheaply built and aluminum posts), but the Airtex 3D1069A is a really solid cap and rotor, it has copper-based posts. See pics below.

Thanks. That is a good deal, but I wonder if you didn't just get lucky with what the reassembler grabbed out of the parts bin.

That's typical of reassembled or reman parts. It is not labor conducive to pull a vacc. can apart to replace the arm/spring and diaphragm...so I wonder if they just cleaned up an old 4876 vacc. advance, then repainted it and called it 'good'....

I would be worried a bit about what the next one looked like since 1977 would be the first year for the 4876 distributor not 1976... Canada's curves per the book are not as "nice" (I like the curve for the M-body in the late 70's that puts base timing at 4 ADTC....)

You can still get 9R governors, but most remans from Cardone tyically are 15L's, a 9R or 11L would be like winning the lottery...

Maybe they acually do it right, from the rockauto website under "INFO":

All AutoLine Distributors are precision remanufactured using original equipment castings. All castings are completely disassembled and thoroughly cleaned using industrial compounds and equipment.
All components such as gears, breaker plates and shafts are cleaned and inspected prior to our assembly process. Drive gear’s, couplers and fasteners are graphite finished. Breaker plates are disassembled and all worn components are replaced.
Housings are sandblasted to restore factory finish and shaft assemblies are cleaned and polished. Housings are inspected to ensure mounting flanges, cap locators and threads are acceptable. Shafts that are damaged are spray welded and machined or discarded. Advance weights, pins and springs are inspected and replaced if worn.
Vacuum advance assemblies are disassembled, re-plated and have new diaphragms installed. Advance specifications are identified during this process. New bushings are aligned and installed in housings prior to shaft installation.
Modules and wiring harnesses are supplied with most electronic application’s, and points and condensers are included with all standard ignition applications. All modules are stress tested prior to installation.
All distributors are completely bench tested after assembly, throughout all R.P.M. ranges. Mechanical, vacuum and electronic advance curves are checked during testing. Dwell settings are performed on point type applications.
Distributors are supplied with new caps and rotors, when needed, as well as installation instructions and technical bulletins, where applicable.

Dave has a good point. They say that's what they do, and that appears to be what I received. Just for the sake of argument, I'll order another one, see what I get, and report back.

BTW, the super six aluminum body is special. Note the difference in the sealing structure of the Autoline dizzy body (first pic) vs the super six body (second pic). The Autoline has a single thin O-ring to keep the oil from leaking, but the super six aluminum body has a wide recess where I put three #33 O-rings as the primary seal, and then an R19 O-ring at the top where the adjustment bracket seats with the block.

BTW, I found a good use for the crappy (non-Scottish) cap that came with the AutoLine rebuilt distributor. I used my hole saw to make a cap for when I need to align the rotor with post 1 when installing the new distributor...

I am also wanting to order a dizzy from Rock Auto to do an HEI set up for my 84 D. I was reading this thread and looking on Rock Auto's site. That D619 is only listed under a '76 Dart. I went to '77 and only the Autoline D609 is offered. So I'm assuming the D609 has Canadian Emissions. Same thing if I go all the way to an '82 or '83 D150. Please advise which one to order? I think I'm confusing myself.

I ordered an additional D-619 and it didn't have the 11.OR vacuum can. Must be they have a big pile of old dizzys and you get the luck of the draw...

No, it's still thrown-together junk that might work kinda close to the way you want, if you happen to get lucky.
Yeah, and Fram crows about what great filters they make, too.
This (among the rest of the promotional bulk wrap) stands out. The original factory finish was not a sandblasted, open-pore finish.
