Basically, I know it would - physically, but would the cam or anything need to be swapped? My dad was under the impression that maybe there's a lot of differences between the industrial version and automotive. I see what looks like a pump of some kind that is pulley driven, and some other stuff on there. Our shop landlord owns it and it doesn't look like anything's going on with it. He pulled it from a forklift or something.

My other question, is what's all these electronics up on top? Some kind of control for a seperate system? I've never seen them before.

I'd like to ask him to sell it, and then build it as a replacement for the current turbo slant I have now, except make it a little more sturdy. It would also be a short trip to move it to my shop at about a 200 foot forklift ride.

We were showing a boat to a client today to be restored and we had it stored in another part of the warehouse and the client walked in and went "oh it's an old slant six" before he said that I had never noticed that was what it was. I guess all the stuff bolted to it kind of disguised it.

It's a late model cast crank engine, the tell tales are the smog pump (upper right), the stamped steel alternator bracket (left), Dent in the alternator side of the rocker cover, and the ESC computer on the side of the air cleaner...bet it came out of a truck...

Buy it for $100, pull it apart, check the bearings and pumps, rebearing and gasket it, advance the cam a bit, remove the smog pump and power steering if not needed, change the oil pan and motor mounts and yeah it'll drop into any A-body...bet with the stock cam you could just turbo it with a good head gasket and go from there...LOL....assuming the rings aren't stuck or they pulled it because of a rod knock or something (looks like a whole assembly like the previous owner just wanted a V-8 instead)...

The current owner buys a lot of stuff because "it's a good deal" he has a road grader, tractors, forklifts, etc... he's like an equipment hoarder.

The whole transmission is still bolted to it, and I didn't get a look at what it was. we have a couple engine stands, I was hoping if I bought it to roll it over, open it up and see if it's all good. I don't even know if he'd charge me that much, but I was going to ask here before I dug into it. I just didn't know what all was bolted to it and it looked like a hydraulic pump for a forklift or something. There's another transmission on the pallet but again not sure, i just took a couple pictures and closed up and left. He said a while ago that he has a "few" slants laying around, but he isn't sure where, so I was kind of excited when I found one.

That doesn't look like an industrial slant at all. I second the motion it came from a truck or van, and at the least it has a later model cylinder head. I'd take it if the price was right.

Maybe it's the angle, but I don't see the truck/van dipstick. It's a mile long and hard to miss. Maybe that's a car engine? Both my D100 and my W150 had that same air cleaner and smog pump, but the dipstick stuck out farther than the fan belt on both of them.

I think that is either a very late 1980 or a very early 1981 car motor. Trucks had the computer by the battery. It is very rare to see a factory blue hydraulic motor. Slant sixes got painted black starting in 1981, along with hydraulic lifters finally being introduced. However, that is clearly a valve cover for a hydraulic lifter engine era head.

I agree with you except for the computer. My 84 D100 had the computer just as you see in the picture. My 86 W150 had it on the fender.

Interesting. I've never seen a truck with the computer on the air cleaner. Always on the firewall or by the battery. But I haven't seen every truck Chrysler ever built, either.

Actually the 1981 I snagged years back with the A-833Od was that way, and the 1983 that I mugged for an NP435 bellhousing and linkage was that way as well...not sure what Dodge's logic was on placements...maybe it had to do with equipment options on the motor :?:

My '84 D100 with an A-833 had it on the air cleaner, too.

Today I'm going to go over to ask the landlord if he'll sell it. I'm hoping it's not another "I may need it some day" thing, like the 4 GTOs sitting in a box, lamborghini countach S, 40 forklifts, or basically everything else out there.

Hopefully i can grab it, because that would be cheap shipping. My dad already has a plan for it. We'll take this old Ford Interceptor block off one of the stands and store it and I can work on my slant six in the corner. It isn't the best conditions being in a woodshop, but I'll have it tarped really good and not be doing anything with it when dust is around.

Well, I did ask about the motor today when the landlord stopped by to look at the boat we're restoring. He said he was not sure what he took the motor out of and had to think about it. He has a lot of cars that he restores to exactly how they were, so if it had that motor in it - it goes back in it - and so on. So he said if the car's not around anymore, then I can buy it.

The problem though, is he said that "slant six's are kind of rare" which... I (and everyone else) disagree with, but I'm not sure if he meant "it's rare to see a slant six cause it's garbage" or "this is worth $6,000,000" sort of rare.

I've seen them usually go between Free- $300 in this sort of shape.

Around here they are extremely rare. But rare does not mean valuable. I've seen two slants total in the junk yards here in the past decade. Two! I nabbed the super six off one of them. The other had an air conditioned block.

A 318 or 360 can be had for free to $250 any day here. But not a slant.
