The 727 vb is stock that's the one in the trans. The 904 vb has the shift kit installed in it.

I'll do that and try setting the reverse low band. And a side question. How would I know if the bands or clutches were burnt or gone.

The two ways to know if the bands and/or clutches are worn out are to use the chart I posted on the first page of this thread to figure out what components aren't working in the trans or to tear the trans down. You can't access the clutches and bands to inspect them unless you completely disassemble the transmission. Which isn't hard to do, but I don't know if you want to do that.

If the fluid is full, the bands have been adjusted, and the front pump is pumping, then you need to pull the transmission and pull it apart to find out what components have failed. Likely the clutches have been worn out and you need to replace the clutches at a minimum, and it probably wouldn't hurt to replace the bands, seals, and steel clutch plates while you are in there. It isn't hard to do, but yo do need a clean place to work, some basic hand tools, and a goof factory service manual or the ATSG service manual for the 904.

You can find the factory service manual on eBay, or from Bishko Books, or even possibly in the reference section of your local public library. The ATSG (that is, Automatic Transmission Service Group) manual can be purchased from here:
http://www.makcotransmissionparts.com/12400.html

But it is over $30.

HERE is a factory service manual for $20 with free shipping on eBay.

Looks to be the front pump. Fluid has metallic bands and small flakes of metal. Also check to see if the cooler lines had fluid movement in them. They did not. Any recommendations on the disassemble and replacement of the front pump rotor?

Transmission has to come out of the car. Your best bet is to buy the manual that Reed linked. Taking apart a transmission is not a simple endeavor.

That is close enough to get you through a 904 rebuild.
