Need one for my (non-slant, obviously) 2006 Dakota. The original has served me well, but is looking shaky when load tested. Looking for 750 CCA @ 0˚F.

What battery brands have you had good luck with recently? Any that you'd avoid like the plague?

Last one I bought was a Duralast Gold 36-month one for the wife's car from Autozone in 2009 and it's still goin' strong.

I had one from Advance Auto Parts in my truck, a 48 month battery that lasted 7 years. I'm sure they have changed vendors since then but it was well built.

The last batch of Walmart batteries haven't been impressive.

I'm partial to the Costco batteries.

Cheaper than anywhere else.

They're an Interstate battery now with a 42 month (no prorating) warranty.

If it fails within 42 months you get your original purchase price back plus the current core charge (because you won't have a battery to return as core)

So if you have old batteries around, you can get the core from that for an additional discount when you buy your replacement


I predict it will last 41 months.........

My vote is described here. See the date of that post? The battery it describes was four or five years old at that time. It is still in perfect working condition under the hood of my daily driver.

I have had a yellow top Duralast (HAH! I bet you thought I was going to say OPTIMA!) in my 89 Ford van for a number of years now. Never a problem with it, but I do have a high amp (120 or so ) alternator that keeps the battery fully charged. It does sit for weeks at a time without a trickle charger or without the engine charging it and it never gives me any trouble. Realistically, even if it is a GOLD Durmast, I expect to be replacing it in the next few years. Even then I will likely delegate it to the battery for my generator.

Bosch makes a nice AGM battery....just bought one to replace an Optima that finally went after 8 years. I was going to buy an Optima gain....but decided to give this Bosch Platinum series a whirl.

I've found that the biggest killer of car batteries is parasitic drain.

With a daily driven vehicle, parasitic drain is no big deal.

With my 64, it's no big deal either; when it's off it's OFF. I've gotten away with using a lawn and tractor battery (U1) for the last 4.5 years.......

With my 86 Toyota truck, I have to remember to put a charger every once in awhile as it will sit for months...........

Absolutely. My old D100 would be stone dead every weekend when I went to fire her up. I pulled fuse after fuse trying to figure out what was draining the battery, to no avail. So I installed a battery disconnect switch between the battery positive cable and battery. No problems in the past year.
