Hi, I am new to the forum. And very happy to finally find you guys. I seems like NOBODY out there even knows what the hell a 225 IS. Let alone has usefull info... on them. They all say the same thing.. just drop a V8 in there.
Anyway.
I have a 75 Duster with 109K on it. It is a bone stock 225 with the 1bbl carb.
I have been thinking of several ways to get more power, but without making it a monster. It is a street car, and I want it to continue to get reasonable mileage. It is not a daily driver though.
I am familiar with turbo's and have read Maximum Boost. I really just need some of the details particular to this engine. Like where to get the oil supply. Draw thru or blow thru. Best way to mount everything. Can I use the 1bbl carb? What turbo would work best for a stock engine? I have a couple at my disposal, one from an 84 VW turbo Diesel. and the other from a newer Mitsu Eclipse.

I have also considered simply changing the intake carb, and exhaust. I found several links that offer an adapter from 1 to 2 bbl with a Weber 2bbl. or an aluminum Offy intake with 2 Webber 2bbls. Clifford also has some stuff. Here is the link to the alum offy.

I am tempted by the turbo the most.... simply because it is most likely to not affect mileage when not in the boost. And cause it would be really cool to make more power using technology, and ingenuity, and creativity.

As for using a trubo with the 1bbl carb, it is better to go with a bigger carb.
Keep asking questions, with a little work you can get that ol' Slant to run pretty strong.

Welcome. My personal feelings are that if you are planning a turbo the first step should be EFI, Check out http://slantsix.org/articles/dibiase_ef ... ersion.htm and the other articles.
After I did the EFI conversion, and drove it for a couple of years, I installed a turbo from 3.8L Buick.

With only the EFI conversion I got 16.3 MPG average over 4000 miles (auto trans & 3.21:1 rear). Of course I don't baby this car either and I do have AC. When I put the turbo in last summer it dropped to 15.5 MPG. However, at the end of the summer I did notice from the spark plug coloration that it was running rich. This summer I'll lean it down some by "fooling" the ECM into thinking the engine is running hot (see article) and possibly lowering the fuel pressure.
Of course if you're concerned about gas mileage I certainly wouldn't recommend a turbo.

i was just interested as to where it was, i would love to get 15 mpg out of my 361 ci in my satellite, but i'm only gettting 9. but that's why i have my second car now, it will be for gas mileage.

The Mopar fours are the most common turbo motors around. The same basic design philosophy will work on the slant six. You'd need a larger turbo.

I would be conservative on the compression ratio if I was rebuilding a motor that won't have an engine management computer. A Megasquirt system should help, although I'm clueless of what parameters to set.
