No. Every Slant-6 engine ever built came with a timing chain.

The five or six most ultra-hardcore Slant-6 racers in the world might legitimately need a gear drive like this. Anyone not in that category is just buying it to make noise and/or to brag about it (but I repeat myself).

I don't like noisy gear drives that might mask other bad engine noises. But that's just me.

Yep.

There just isn't a real need for a gear drive like Dan said except may the top guys with the fastest cars...even then it is a "push" at that...

Most of the "other" brand guys in my local use them on the V-8's... since I work with some that are hard core racers, I asked one day what the parasitic loss was on their engines.... the answers I got back were about the same... quite a few have dyno'd their engines over the years, and they loose about 10% of their power over all on a mild engine (NA under 600 HP)... they loose a lot less if it's a big block torque monster in the 800+ HP range.... the reason they install it, is so that they don't get timing chain stretch repeatedly hammering the engine the amount that they do...so ultimately it's about keeping the timing and cam to crank phasing rock solid over the course of the engine's race duration...

Since we have to crape for every penny and nickel of power in our engine, I would never want to build up a street engine at 250 hp, then give back 25....that just doesn't pencil out economically in the build...
Even if I justified it with solid phasing and say a crank trigger to keep the timing from eventually walking, it's still a high price to pay for most of our applications..

…now if someone were to design a simple silent gear drive with two helical gears, the type used by Volvo and others for many years, that might be a more worthwhile item. Of course, it would require a reverse-rotation camshaft, and that in turn would require a custom cam billet so the oil pump and distributor would spin the right direction, so it would be cost-prohibitive, and that's even assuming there's enough room under the timing cover for gears of the right diameter.

Oh well…guess it's boring ol', regular ol', normal ol', functional ol' timing chains for the foreseeable future.

BAH! Who needs cheap, simple and reliable? I want expensive, complicated, and problematic! I should start getting into Italian sports cars, like maybe a Lancia.

Reverse rotation engine so cam, oil pump and distributor spin normal

Manual transmission, so rotation direction doesn't matter.

Flip the differential over so you'll go forward.......
