I intend to swap out my problematic remanufactured 1945 one barrel for a new carburetor, and after a lot of reading it seems the Weber 38/38 seems to be a good option for a new carburetor. It's going on my '84 D150 LWB with NP435 4-speed. I was hoping for more reliability and slightly improved performance.

So far the shopping list includes:
- a Super Six manifold

- Weber 38/38 DGES Jeep kit (http://www.webercarbsdirect.com/product_p/wk551-38.htm)

-Weber jet kit (http://www.carburetion.com/Weber/weberpartsjetkits.asp)

- Fuel pressure regulator (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/qft-30-804/overview/)

The truck has already been converted from LeanBurn to HEI. From what I've read, the 4.0/4.2 Jeep kit is fairly close to the right jetting for the slant six, and the adapter plate can be mated to the super six intake. The truck is a Pennsylvania daily driver, so I'd prefer the stock heating arrangement of the two barrel versus the four barrel manifold. It also appears that the Weber comes with an integral electric choke and has the port for vacuum advance, both of which are big pluses. Am I on the right track so far?

I've helped my brother swap carbs and manifolds on his V8's before, but from what I read the slant six is much more particular about these changes than the small blocks. Any and all help is much appreciated!

The only thing I would add is to get an adatper to run a traditional closed element air clenaer instead of the open element air cleaner sold with most weber conversions.

I started the exact conversion last summer before family obligation put it on hold.

The swap is straight forward. Check the adapters for flatness. Thread locker on all the bolts.

Definitely pay extra for the adapter to run a normal air cleaner. The included one is as cheap as it looks.

I will be making my own adapter to fit a stock one barrel air cleaner hooked up as a CAI

Make sure you mount the fuel regulator where you can read the gauge. I mounted mine in a bad location and need to use a flashlight to see the gauge. Also spend for a quality gauge. Getting the fuel pressure right is vital to tuning these carbs.

There are a few posts about this upgrade on this forum. Will add the links once I have time

I've messed with Weber carbs before (though not on a slant six) and I can say that a good pressure regulator is mandatory. I put one on a 4 cylinder Chevrolet and the fuel pressure was just enough to keep the needle off the seat and flood the engine. And that was at idle. They're great carbs once you get them dialed in. Had them on 2 Fords, 2 Chevrolets, and a Peugeot and they're reliable.

Thanks guys! I'll look into air cleaner alternatives.

Does anyone have any jetting info for the 38/38 on a truck? I read about several people doing the conversion but no jetting information.

That kit should be in the ballpark already, since it's for a Jeep. I cannot stress enough the importance of the pressure regulator before you fire it up the first time. You may be spot on with the jetting it comes with.

Thank you! I'll be gathering most of the parts up now while I try to find a two barrel intake. Hopefully I can find one by spring, so I can due the swap in the nice weather and test-and-tune over the summer.

I have a question.. If you are buying a Weber for a 4.2, and this should, according to what I read, work on the slant6,,, why do you need to buy the jet kit???
Is the Weber not jetted for the slant?

Please explain,, I am confused..

Sorry, I did not notice how old this thread is,,
Question still stands.

How is this carb working for you?

I haven't completed the swap yet, but I'll be sure to include everything (with photos) once I have!

I wasn't sure how close the 4.0/4.2 jetting would be for the slant six; that's why I asked here first. Thanks to the great feedback it looks like that might not even be necessary. I'll report back once I get the pieces together. :D

I just got the intake the other day, but I might be putting this project on hold for a short while. May or may not be trading my '94 out for a newer four door this weekend.

K&N and other gauze filters aren't nearly as good as most paper elements at cleaning the air. Also, an enclosed air cleaner allows cold air ducting and they are less noisy.

Is this a good conversion considering that the truck has a NP435??

These are not sporty transmissions..

I have always wanted to swap a Weber into my 82 (with a NP435), but have always been afraid to because of the jetting issues that Webers have, according to what is talked about on this Forum..

Reading your post is inspiring me to attempt the swap..

I just have the concern with the transmission..

Question,, is the improvement going to be noticeable on my truck or any truck that has a NP435??

We'll find out when it's done!

The NP-435 may not be sporty, but I've seen plenty of guys build up D150's like this that have small block V8's in them. May not be optimal, but it's more of a grocery-and-lumber-getter than heavy hauler anyway.

I'm just tired of this remanufactured one-barrel. The truck didn't come with the original carburetor and it's been a lot of headaches over the last three months. Anything would be an upgrade for me. I wanted a new carb, of good quality, that was a decent match for the truck with an integral electric choke. From what I've read the Weber 38/38 meets those needs.

I know and agree with what you say about remanufactured crap,,
I have about 6 carbs laying around at home,, I get them at the junk yard cheap, try to build them up and still end up with issues..

People on this forum recommend buying new ones, but I have not found a "new" one anywhere on the Internet... (Holleys or Carter)..

I live in Tijuana Mex. I have gone to many mechanics who claim to know carbs very well.. At the end, it turns out that they don't even know what I'm talking about when I start talking to them about Jetting..

My truck runs good now, (actually it runs great!! Thanks to this forum,, Thank you guys!!)

I have single barrel Holley on it now..

I also have a 2 barrel intake, and a 4 barrel intake for the slant six,,
I would like to swap one in....
