...looks about right, you need some slack in the system between firewall and bracket.

"slack in the system between firewall and bracket."

Well...ok......but in order to ge tthe metal end into the bracket, I have to BEND the cable forcefully to even START to fit...and that is putting a large amount of strain on the cable......and the bracket.

The theory is that the "loop" method (when using a too-long cable) is bad because of the bindage that can occur......how is this any better?

BEFORE you bend it or kink it, can you send us some more pics illustrating the problem, where the cable runs (exactly, on both sides of the firewall just so we can see), hold the metal end near the bracket so we can see how the bend would be (as close as possible without actually kinking the cable), so that we better understand the issue?

ATP's Y-161 is 19.25" long, the shortest they offer for F-body (V8 cable). It is my understanding, as someone said above, that the super six used that shorter cable. The 1bbl slant six in those years used a 25.5" cable (Y-159 ATP number).

I was curious how you're routing it, perhaps there is a way that some slack is supposed to be behind the firewall and then the length would be proper on the engine bay side of the firewall.

There isnt much leeway on how it goes in...

There is a plastic block with ears that pushes thru the firewall...that piece is permanantly affixed to the cable.....and the rest goes into the engine bay, straight shot....

Well, that being the case, then I can see your problem. Geez, might be that you can get the longer cable and loop it once, but the gurus on these boards say that the V8 cable, shorter, is the one used for the super six. Any chance the bracket is not in the correct place (I don't think so, just asking)?

Looks like you need a couple inches shorter to get the metal barrel to the clamp position. Is that about right? Where is the firewall mount relative to the clamp point on the bracket?

Anyone else have a super six in an F-body that can share pics for Shadango?

Shadango,

here is a pic from another thread on this board for reference to how the cable is clamped into the bracket if that helps. I see that the cable is curved between the clamp point and the firewall, will your's not bend that way?

The accelerator cable is disconnected but you can still tell it goes on the other end of that stud.
