I am working on putting together a Carter AFB for the slant six in my truck. The engine is a stock 1976 225 but the truck has 3.9 rear gears so the motor turns pretty fast when I am on the highway doing 75-80 (still no tach installed yet).

I know ideally I would start my project with a 500 CFM (or 400, if I could find it) Carter AFB or Edelbrock Performer, but I haven't found one of those in my price range. I have managed to score two mid 60s Factory Chrysler Carter AFBs for big block Mopars and one Generic Mopar AFB that needs parts.

I am thinking I want to use the non-factory AFB and build it for my slant. I would get a set of the venturi restrictors to drop the CFM to 500 from 625, but then it still needs floats, metering rods, jets, mixture screws, fuel squirter for the primaries, and the entire acclerator pump linkage and assembly.

This leads me to my dilemma- should I sell the factory big block carbs and either buy the parts to fix the generic AFB or buy a completley different more complete AFB? Or should I cannibalize the big block carbs to get the generic carb working? Is there a market for the factory big-block carbs?

What's your budget for an Edelbrock 500 CFM AVS with throttle cable, cable bracket, fuel line, tuning kit, etc? I still have mine as listed here: http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=59900

The included throttle cable bracket will accept the Lokar transmission cable and probably others with a little work.

The factory big block AFBs are a little generous on the primary side. I sold the '67 383 AVB I had on Craigslist for $40.

I'd have to say no to this.
Even with the die hard restorers, these carbs are rarely used.
Especially the later 60's mechanical, small cfm jobs.
I had Scott Smith rebuild a '66 383 4bbl. carb for me and every time I mention it, it seems I get ridiculed for running such a small carb.
I am very happy with the carb.
It's on a rebuilt 400, in a big C-body and gets me the torque and mileage I want from this set-up.
Just one fellas view point.
