Heat could explain my quandary. I was going to try to make some calculations but I can't remember what a mole is. We will have to leave this to the scientists.
When measuring the cranking compression we are approximating adiabatic compression which raises the temperature of the gas in the cylinder. Because of the temperature rise the pressure also rises. That temperature derived pressure rise must be added to the pressure rise of the isothermal compression to get the final pressure.

Isothermal compression is when no heat is added and halving the volume doubles the absolute pressure.
