Hello all,

I finally got my 70 swinger running and driving. After driving it for it's first real long drive I started leaking fuel. Looks like my fuel pump has separated. Any recommendations or threads I should read on replacements? I plan on building it. Are there fuel pressure recommendations for carb/ cam set ups?

No reason or need to deviate from factory fuel pressure spec of 3 to 5 pounds, which will be plenty for any carb you'd put on a street-driven Slant-6 car.

The thing to watch out for comes if your '70 is a California car. Do you know if it is?

Then all you have to worry about is parts quality...or lack of it. Fuel pumps are on the long and growing list of parts it's difficult to buy in good quality through usual channels any more. I stocked up on the really good rebuildable fuel pumps years ago, and wound up buying more of them than I will ever use, so send me a PM if you want to buy one (rebuild kits are readily available and easy to put in). On the other hand, if you're off the road with a dead fuel pump and you need to get it going right now, a parts store fuel pump will get you at least some ways down the road!

My van needs a bit too much cranking time after I let it sit for a few days. Pretty sure it’s a fuel drain back issue and not the usual heats soak/evaporation thing.
I remember reading something about the check valves getting damaged by ethanol blended fuel. Any way to be sure the pump is going bad before replacing it?

I have a cheap spare pump I could use (mexican made Airtex I think), but I figured it would be wiser to keep it that way so I went looking for a genuine NOS replacement.
I found a couple of those earlier rebuildable fuel pumps and was wondering if they would fit right in and on a ’77 engine and will be a better replacement?
