Well I should clarify, the $2.11 was for chevron, cheaper stations like Valero, at the same time, are running 87 octane for $1.99 but I won't go near that stuff. Chevron or bust usually.

30 miles in one direction and you go up a few cents, 60 miles in the other direction (Silicon Valley) and your liable to go up a quarter .

guys i didn't put this up for a gas price comparison i'm trying to find something out how much compression before i can't run 87 octane

Like I said I took 0.100" off and cant run 87 octane. I would think 0.060-0.070" would be ok
P.S. I spent $1.87/gallon for 93 octane today

As many other things, my slant head was milled w/o measurements. The dynamic compression test (measured from spark plug hole when rotating the engine with starter) gives 1.2 - 1.3 MPa readings (174 - 188 PSI).

This is not too much for the 95E fuel sold here. As well I have not checked the timing mark, if it is located correctly or not. Timing light says, this engine has about 10 degrees on idle and 30-32 degrees at 3000 rpm up.

Fuel price 1.1 €/L (~5US$/USGal).

thank so i should be safe with 0.020 off both head and block and don't worry i was just being a smart ass and 75.2 last time i gassed up anything but thats canadian dollars and by the liter for 87 octane to boot if only gass prices returned to what they were 10 years ago

The block doesnt usually warp, so other than correcting deck height for race purposes, you don't really need to, plus it will wipe out your engine serial number. I would just check the deck surface with a feeler gauge and if it's good, leave it as is.
