New to the forum, my first slant six.. bought a 1976 Valiant Scamp w/225 for my boy and I to work on... runs really well but I need to pull engine to fix oil pan leak. What else should I do while the motor is out on the stand? Appreciate the advise. I'm a 5 out of 10 mechanic.

Drop the oil pan and scrape out the goop. Might as well change the timing chain since it's much easier outside the chassis. Scrub the engine bay and maybe paint some things while it's empty. Might as well scrub the engine and paint it too while it's out. Heck, I'd change all the gaskets and seals while it's apart, transmission too.

Welcome to the forum!
In addition to everything coconuteater64 suggested, I found it much easier working with the firewall wiring with the engine out. You can get right in there and not have to stretch out across the engine bay. If your wiring is looking shabby, now might be a good time to address that as well.
If you haven't already, I recommend that you check out the Articles page for the Main Seal Installation and Oil Pan Seal and Manifold Installation articles. These were a huge help to me when I did the same thing last year.

Thanks for the suggestions, didn't think about addressing the engine bay while the motor is out. On last bit of advise if you would.... should I go right to a 2bl carb or see how single works with headers first.

In 39 years of working on cars and 43 years with motorcycles, make incremental changes one at a time. That way if something goofs up you'll know it had something to do with the last thing you changed. A one barrel carburetor with free flowing exhaust can be quite peppy.
