In 2008 my grandma gave me her beloved 1975 Dodge dart 4 door custom. My grandfather bought this for her new in 1975 and she always said she would never sell it. In 2008 she decided she no longer wanted to drive the car any longer. Over the previous 10 years she only put 655 miles on the car, mostly going to the grocery store a few miles away once a week or so. After receiving the car I went through all the normal wear and tear items and replaced everything so it would be safe to drive again. Over the course of the next two years I drove the car everyday. In 2010 I built a high-compression motor including one of the group buy Erson dual pattern cams, a big valve head milled for higher compression, one of the hurricane 2 barrel manifolds with a 500 Holley. In 2011 this motor lost oil pressure warming up in my driveway. At this time I decided to go back to the original motor. While the motor was out I rebuilt the entire front suspension, rebuilt the transmission and painted the engine bay. Before the project was completed, I got married and bought a house with my wife. Since 2012 the car has been sitting in the garage non-running. A few months ago I started rewiring the engine bay, swapping over to HEI ignition, a higher output alternator upgrade and trying to figure out what all need to put back together from years ago. As of yesterday the dart left the garage under its own power for the first time after 8 years. My goal for this year is to get the car back on the road so that I can take my grandmother for another drive. She's currently 90 years old and still lives on her own but her memory is going fast. I'll post updates as time allows.

Sounds good.

That would be a nice gift for Grandma.

Great saga of a beloved Object Dart ("D'art").

Enjoy!

Very Nice, that is great that the car has a family history.
Thanks for sharing the story.

That's awesome! You should get some pics of her with, and in, the car. I'd love to see the smile on her face being in the car again.
