Keith came over today with a trans brake valve body a customer claimed did not work. I let Keith install it in my car and amazingly it worked fine.

Cleaned the carb and got fresh gas in the car and it's starting and idling almost instantly.

Hopefully soon it will be time to let go of the button in anger.

Went down to the shop today and played with the Valiant a little. I had taken the blocker panels out of the grilles to repaint them, so I got them back in today. Without the panels it is almost impossible to get any heat in the motor.

I also put my new belts in. My buddy at the Chicago Connection get me a set that are good for 2-1/2 years this time.

A buddy from work brought his kids over to the shop to see the car today. His 3 y/o loves race cars and was just in love with the Valiant until his Dad had me start it up. I warned them it was going to be loud, but they were still pretty surprised. The little guy didn't care for it much.

Was going to try to go to 41 tomorrow, but Teresa seems to have food poisoning and it's supposed to rain, so I left the car at the shop. Will try again Memorial Day weekend at Coles County.

I hope she gets well soon and you'll get the car out to an event when the weather is right.

Thanks,

Greg.

Thanks Greg. 41 posted last night they had 242 cars for their first points race yesterday. The most I have ever seen there in person was 185 for the first big bucks race, and that was crazy. Not sure where they put another 40 cars. It rained out in RD 1. With that many cars there I am just as happy I am not there.

Got it dennis. Races that are well attended are one thing, but crowded can be slow and arduous for all.

Especially when I haven't made a pass yet this year. There was no T&T this weekend either.

I've got 5 days off Memorial Day weekend. I'll get it out somewhere.

Took the car in to Long's shop this morning and had them install some collector extensions on my Clifford headers. Not sure they'll do much, but it is a little quieter inside the car. I know I am officially old because I had them make the extensions in a way that we can put a muffler on the car this off season.

Was going to test tonight at 41, but it's raining again. Was going to Charleston tomorrow, but they're getting rain tonight too. Going to try 41 Sunday.

Yes lots of rain this weekend.

At least north of I40..

Is this the first hit this year for the car?

Yes, I've tried to go out twice before and got rained out both times.

That seems to be SOP with this car for me. I get rained out over 50% of the times I want to go.

went past 41 dragstrip Saturday on way home and it was quite well lit up, no noise at the moment, couldnt see the track thru the trees while driving by on "slow 41" but they must have been running...probably between heats as we drove by.

Made it to 41 yesterday. It was a flying circus with a Big Tire/Small Tire shootout, 3 nitro front engine dragsters, 3 nostalgia Pro Stocks, and a guy trying to license in a AA/Fuel Altered. Lots of downtime and cleanup.

Did get 2 hits. First one the motor would not go up on the limiter, but ran good when I let off the button. Went 13:16@100.

Adjuster the plunger in the secondary linkage and dropped the floats a little. Waited while they ran/cleaned up after the circus cars and tried again. Car sounded great and came out of the water with the shift light on in high gear. Staged it and it went right up on the limiter and felt good. 13:11@100.

Put it back on the trailer under it's own power with no rods hanging out so it was a successful day.
