I have succesfully driven the car this summer 2500 miles. Biggest problem was at May, when the harmonic damper decided to flew away in the middle of a highway cruise and punctured the radiator. Damper neck had crack at it's neck and was not secured in with a bolt. (Which was a mistake, but I learned my lesson here )
I had to wait for six weeks to get the rad fixed, but it was worth it. The radiator has a new core now with 24 more tubes than the original and it runs super cool.

I needed to add a second muffler, beacause the noise was pretty loud.
The alternator failed twice, so I went with the GM-style alt, MAD-uograde and goodbye flickering headlights. Also got a set of new tires for it:

It's a blast to drive and seems very reliable, but I have failed to tune it up properly.
I've played with the jetting, emulsion tubes, regulators, floats etc..
The accelerator pump shot is just not enough, no matter what I do to it.
I think it's simply not possible for a single DCOE to satisfy the fuel need during rapid pedal movements.

It goes 17 mpg average, which is great imo.

So I decided to convert it to sequential fuel injection and computer controlled ignition.
I ordered the MaxxECU Street - package and started to gather some parts.

Thank you for the update. I love all the engineering and fabricating you've done.

I had a Webber side draft on my draw thru turbo 170, and had the same problem. I went with a Holley 500 cfm 2bbl.

Is the Weber stock jetting? They make quite a few pump jets so you should be able to tune it. Largest is 060. If I'm remembering right David Vizard had a supercharged big block running a DCOE and he got it to work fine (I do think it was one of those big 50's though).

You can fine tune between pump jets by changing discharge valves.

Here is a link to factory stock Weber jetting:

https://www.racetep.com/webercarbjet.html

Largest DCO pump used was a 045 so you have some room to experiment there.

Awesome looking car by the way.

Brandon

The carb has been jetted properly and other than rapid gas pedal pressing it works like a charm. I have spent countless of hours and days to tune it, with a help of a AFR gauge.
Biggest pump jet is 90 and thats what it got now. And it's not enough at all, or the route to combustion chamber is too complex or long. I even clocked the pump jets for a straight shot to intake and supercharger. I have tried different springs with the pump piston and also tried 000 discharge valve.
I have tried different emulsion tubes with it too, but nothing seems to help at all.

I have read dozens of manuals and articles, but I know when it's time for me to give up.

Markus

In the first post I see this is a Chinese Weber copy. I wonder if there is some internal restriction limiting the accelerator pump squirt. Maybe the passages aren't drilled large enough or maybe there's some swarf partially blocking the fuel flow. I certainly see that kind of thing with Chinese copies of Keihin motorcycle carburetors.

Very nice work and glad you are enjoying the cool car. I decided before I went to a turbo that I would not do it with a carb. I am very happy with that decision (2004 EFI install, added turbo in 2011). It is very easy to tune (laptop) my multi-port EFI (megasquirt I) for almost all conditions. I have a MSD digital 6AL-II for timing control. I will go to MSPro for fuel and timing sometime soon, which will probably clear up any remaining minor issues.

I just drove the car 300 mi to and from the Clay City, Kentucky Slant 6 race. Cruised at 75 MPH getting 22 MPG over some fairly steep mountains. Ran 13.60s in the 1/4 mile on 8 psi of boost and won the race on Saturday. Hard to beat that for this kind of car, IMHO.

Lou

I don't remember what Webber carb I used, other then it was a side draft. That carb was originally used in a one barrel per cylinder application, not one barrel for 3 cylinders. I did every mod I could think of to get a larger pump shot, and never got it right. As stated it ran great as long as you didn't open the throttle too fast. Even with a Holley 500 cfm 2bbl, I needed a very large shot. I agree FI is the way to go.
