There should be a "engine hardware" sticky that lists the McMaster and/or Dorman part numbers for all the hard to find greebly bits (like manifold stud hardware) on our slants.

Another source for the studs is Dorman part number 675-093. This is a 10 pack, so it comes up 3 short. I've also noticed a lot of auto parts stores seem to be perplexed by that part number.

Now, if only we could find repro triangle-cone washers...

I'm also looking for advice on the intake to exhaust manifold bolts - I used a cheap steel the last time (with a bunch of anti-seize) because I couldn't find full thread grade 8. When I removed the manifolds recently one of the bolts twisted apart (luckily in the middle so I could remove it with pliers instead of a drill!). A 3.5" grade 8 has enough thread to tie the manifolds together, but none left over for the wiring bracket which mounts underneath the exhaust manifold. Ideas?

I got some somewhere in 316 stainless steel, bought a whole box of em, I think there were 10 per box.

I think I got both 4 and 4-1/2" versions to be sure I had plenty of thread left on the bottom to attach the heat stove, my throttle bracket, and a 2nd nut below them. Maybe it was 3-1/2 and 4" I bought, would have to go look.

Mine are full threaded, I think they might have come from mc master -carr as well. If not there they were from Fastenal.

Found a guy on EBAY who reproduces triangle washers: https://www.ebay.com/itm/334354254901
They work fine so far, though he sells them in packages with the round dome washers as well - it's a kit to do the whole engine. I only needed one washer, so now I have a bunch of extras!

Thanks! I picked some up - 4" looks like it will fit the bracket with enough room for the nut, 4.5" would give me a little breathing room and let me use a lock washer. All my hardware store had on hand was 4" and 5", so I'm gonna have a bunch of extra thread sticking out - good thing there's plenty of room in the engine compartment!

EDITED: the 4" works great, even with a lock washer!

Hello All,

A little tip for the Canadian members of this forum. McMaster-Carr does not ship to Canada. However, all is not lost, I found that a Stover Nut is a good substitute. A Stover Nut has a conical end that has been pinched in three places to distort the threads to pinch the stud or bolts threads (see link below). Like the McMaster-Carr fastener, these are a reusable.

On my engine, the previous 'backyard mechanic' threw out the factory nuts and then used standard nuts on reversed manifold washers!!! Go figure? Always makes me wonder why?? Needless to say that this was the root cause of the cracked exhaust manifold when I acquired the vehicle.

With the Stover Nut I reversed the nut on the stud so the conical end would engage the recess in the factory manifold nuts. So far this appears to work as well as the manifold leak free. I update this thread if anything changes.

For you Canucks out there, I found my Stover Nuts (5/16 x 24 IIRC), at Home Hardware.
