Lou, I "think" I don't have enough 1st gear.
Talking with Dan Brewer he thinks the 3.09 Liberty Gear set will help.
The spare was a 2.47 and that is going the wrong way.
I thought the 2.47 was in the Colt but it was a 2.66.

So I have an aluminum bushed case and a Faceplated gear set coming.

But it's still a mystery to me why it won't et any better.
The compression tests are great so I don't think it's ring seal.
You heard it idle, it "sounds" healthy.
And lord knows there are enough go fast parts on it to get the job done.

Could it use more compression, cam, porting?
YES YES YES.

Even if you go to another 1st gear, the most I think that could help would be 1-4 tenths. You are off by a couple of seconds still, IMHO. You are much better off than at MoKan, but still a ways to go I think... Keep having fun with it!!

Lou

What is your compression ratio again?

Once you are launched the 2.66 gear set should be better than the 3.09 with less rpm drop between shifts. What was you 1/4 miles ET?

Problem is I don't think it will launch with the 2.66 unless I am at 5 or 6000 RPM.

I ran a 17 at MOKAN.
Only had about 2/3 throttle due to a big foot hitting the pedal rod and a slipped throttle lever on the throttle rod.

You have to do what makes you comfortable, but I don't think 5000 is an unreasonable launch rpm for a lightweight stick car. But that is just me talking from when I was younger and foolisher! :D :D

Help me learn Stan. The clutch tamer? Is it supposed to allow for enough slip to get the car moving and not shock everything so much? And wouldn't that allow you to adjust the slippage to get you moving at a lower launch rpm? I really don't know. Thanks

Rick, still working with the tamer, steep learning curve, but yes it "should" help me leave.
You have an initial hit point and then rate of engagement.

We both are blessed!

Small motor+big tire=big rpm at launch............

Little moders got no tork. You got to spin them up.

102 fuel is too much for 10.5-1, but would only kill a couple tenths.

Keep tuning buddy, you'll get there.

I used to launch the heavy ass '69 Dart with a 10" clutch at 5200-5500
If you don't spin it up a bit it will bog a bit I am betting.
I also had about 10- 10.25:1 compression as well.
