As above, '64 Dart, everything's there, but the mast is broken off right where it comes out of the base.

I believe they're all the same for about 20 years, but I cold be wrong about that.

If there were an inch sticking up, I'd get one of those replacement antennas with the set screws, but, alas, no good.

I plan to fix the radio over the winter. I'd like to have an antenna so that I can hear all that exciting AM programming come Spring, and I'd hate to have to resort to a coat hanger.

Incidentally, I'll also be looking into BlueTooth adapters I can wire into the radio, so if any passers-by have any experience with those, I'd love to hear it.

In my yout' I would have installed a big stereo and speakers, but I'm tryin' to keep this one simple and original.

Thanks,

- Eric

The Chrysler-supplied antenna is '62-'65. They cost money because Max Wedge cars also used them. '60-'61 items will work, as will a '66 piece. '67-up fendertop contours are different enough that one of those antennas will stick off at a spavined angle if you try to install it in your '64.

Aftermarket antennas are quite diverse.

I just need to mast. I've got all of the clamping bits and they're fine.

I believe that any mast from the general period will fit in the base, so the rest doesn't matter.

I'm sure there are cosmetic differences, like the size of the little ball on the end, but nobody's ever going to notice that.

I am not going to pay $150 for a new antenna assembly, because that's just nuts. Maybe when I find a Max Wedge in a barn.
A coat hanger will work in a pinch, and might be kind of... period-accurate.

I bought a $25 bluetooth adapter that plugs into my cigarette lighter and I can set the FM frequency. Works well on my 68 Dart and 2001 Saturn.

Yes, but this radio is AM.

I'm looking at this unit from RetroRadio, which receives BlueTooth and FM, but I won't be messing with it for a while.

You got that "radio delete" Saturn, eh?

Never sold by itself for the antenna on your car; not a separable part of the antenna (without breaking/destroying it). Guess you'll be up for buying one of these and figuring out a way to attach it.

Yeah. I may have to buy one of those.

After I get the radio working.

And after I get tired of the coat hanger.

In the interim, someone may have a rotting carcass with a serviceable antenna that they want to sell me.

Stan generously pulled one out and photographed it for me, but unfortunately, it's not quite what I need.

Thank you Stan.

Still looking.

ps: I discovered that AutoZone has the old generic replacement antennas for $15.
It ain't perfectly "accurate," but if I don't find one by the Spring, I'll use one of those until I do.

I can now say that the generic $15 AutoZone antenna fits, doesn't look particularly out of place, and does work, although I do not have an original antenna to compare to.

One negative: It had a 48" wire, but the '64 Dart wire is 55".
Good thing I had my trusty electricians' wire stretcher.

All that was needed to fix the AM radio was four electrolytic capacitors (cost more to ship than to buy).

I'm still on the lookout for a decent original antenna.

Thanks,

– Eric
