oh it'll definitely be intercooled. like Baron said, i'm mostly just planning on using the 170 'cause i have it available and it's pretty much free. i'm basically in the planning stage right now, so everything is subject to change. if i run across a 225 cheap i may just go ahead go w/ it instead. or i was thinking about notching the block to run a 190 crank to stroke the 170, i think some one on here has already done this.

My other reason for using the 170 is my bad habit of trying to take "the untraveled road", so to speak. I like messing w/ oddball engines and cars and pushing the envelope w/ them. I like the challenge, i guess. Plus they're totally sleeper 8) .

Speed Dragon,

I am pleased as hell that you're going to try to do this. I confess that I also like to use oddball engines (and have done hot rod projects with several including /6s and even a 273 with multiple carbs :) ).

I wish I didn't have so many restrictions on where I can build roun' hea! Send us some pics as it gets goin, will ya? :D

Now I know for fact that I am not crazy for aiming for the 275 hp mark. Like Baron said - Tom, you da man.

yeah 275 shouldnt be that hard
I'm fairly certian that i can breach it with...

225 bored .040
head shaved .060
Silvolite racing pistons
dual holley 2 barrel
msd ignition
custom ground comp cam
oversized valves intake/exaust
custom tuned exaust headers
chrome alternator (chrome = +10 hp per part)

275 at the wheels is a tall order without a blower or juice. It'll take lots of compression, headwork and camshaft to get there.

Or one little bottle.

10hp per part! Wow, now i know i have to order that chrome bolt dress-up kit! That could be a quick way to get to 500hp.

What a ridiculous statement from a person who asked:
"does anyone know how to do engine calculations?
a stock 225 is 3.7L
and my pistons are .040 over. but my head is going to be .060 under.
i would like to know the real displacement and compression."

Anyone for whom algebra is rocket science should be a bit more circumspect in making deprecatory remarks about the competence of others.

Please: enlighten us as to your professional credentials. Degree in mechanical engineering, have we? Magazines in which your articles have appeared? SAE member? Published author? Patents?

For anyone who is not convinced that this is a 12 year old, track down some of his posts - try not to laugh.

 I found some foreign website that had a bunch of pictures of a 62 valiant with triple webers and a single turbo pushin 567 ponies at the rear wheels. Its fastest pass in the 1/4 was 10.7 seconds. Thats complete insanity!!!

Seems like reading on here and Mopar magazines that their are some slants pushing in the 10 second mark(perfect conditions), I don't believe any of them are doing 567 horsepower. I assuming that 567 rear wheel horsepower on the slant would be fairly unreliable so it's probably a race motor and therefore a race car that's been lightened as much as possible so it seems like 10.7 second passes would be a bit slow... not saying that isn't incredibly fast, just seems like with that horsepower it ought to be faster.

Personally my goal is FI with a non-humongous sized throttle body and a mild turbo(I'll be happy if it gets me over 160 horspower, as long as it give me a nice seat of the pants feel and can easily beat a Geo Metro, unlike my car's current tendency to only slightly beat a Geo Metro).

The link for that car has been posted all over the Internet. I am somewhat skeptical of his dyno numbers based on his ET and speed. Unless his '66 Valiant weighs 4300# it should be going a lot faster than it does. It could be something getting messed up in translation too, the website is in Finnish, I think.

When Mike ran 10:19 at Monster Mopar a couple years ago the Power/Speed calculator showed about 465 horse or so. :D
