will regular powder coating hold up to the temps that headers see? or will it need to be a special powder coat?

ive got a brand new set of headers on the way and want to keep them looking good without the $195 jet hot bill.

From my understanding, powder coating is a plastic-like treatment that is baked on after application. I suspect it would not hold up well to temps that are higher than the baking oven, but I'm not an expert on the subject.

Do not I repeat do not powder coat your headers. It will burn off in about 30 seconds.ceramic or jet coating is what you want to do.Little pricey, but these are the best coatings.

Eastwood does sell a ceramic powder coating for coating headers. I have heard that it works and holds up but this is the ONLY powder that I know of that will withstand the temps of the exhaust. Jet-Hot and Airborne are two companies that apply the ceramic liquid coatings. These coating must be cured at 700-800 degress for 1 hr.(If silver/chrome look then they must also be polished.) Most powder coating ovens will only reach 500 so be careful who you get to coat them. If they can not get a full cure I would be very wary.

You can also look here for an applicator near you that applies techline coatings. Techlline also has a product called Satin Black. Works very well, we coated our turbo housing with it and three years later no problems.http://www.techlinecoatings.com/approved/appappna.htm

Aside from the eastwood product no other powder will last. The powder itself cures around 375-400 and if subject to these temps or higher for any length of time the powder will become dry and brittle and start flaking off.
