 Post subject: Changeing out idler arm

well i have had problems with my steering. i was told my idler is bad. i went to change it out and got lucky some on had changed it out already for the bolt was in back wards so i didnt have to jack up the motor. :D

now that i got under the car i see that the i see that the arm has hit the side of the pan. and the center link has been rubbing on the pan.

i got an idler arm but it seems to be missing some thing. my old one gots like i bushing that goes through the arm. the new one has a sleave for the bolt and came with two washers and 3 foam like wahser thingys.

i'm wonder does the idler arm need a dust boot/ my old one never had one and the new arm i just got looks nothing like the old one and dint come with a boot. but if i put one on this would give me the clearance to stop rubbing the oil pan

What year car is this on? I'd make sure you got an idler arm for the right year. The one on my '68 Dart is like the new one you describe, a Moog part.

got a 73 duster. when i was looking online i found this on ebay

this looks like what i have in now. the one i got was told it's for a 73 to 76
part number on the box is FA1012 and theres a moog # K7086
i think it's the right art unless it got mixed in the box.

I don't know about the idler arm for a drum brake suspension, but I bought one for our disc brake suspension last week, and it looks different than the E-bay picture. On ours, the ball joint stud mounts to the center link with a castle nut and cotter pin (no dust boot). The fat end which mounts to the K-frame has a sleeve already pressed into it, and a "foam washer thingy" slips over each end of the sleeve. That whole thing is sandwiched between washers on end side and fits between the tabs on the K-frame (of course, that's where the bolt goes through.) Again, no dust boot.

Was that clear? :?

a ya it's very clear. i knew that but my centerlink rubs the oil an the new idler arm i got looks nothing like the one i got now witch has the pressed bushing in it .the new one just got s sleave for the blot to pass through but this is the one the parts store gave me i checked the numbers and it is for a 73 to 76. but when i but it in my steering fells worse and the arm still wiggles up and down

i seen that yearone ofers dust boots for idler arms so i thought i was missing some thing. must be for other years

can a idler from a v8 fit? just got one form pick a part looks the same. i thought about about takeing off the centerlink. looks different didnt think it would fit
