Hey Tom,
Is there a consolidated list of the Champions and Runners Up since the Series began? I couldn't find one searching.
On the main page we have the standing records. Could we perhaps add a "List of Champions" as well?
I think that would be a nice addition to more easily recognize our past champions.

Rob

I can go back through the old newsletters and do it.

Might be easier to see if Seymour already has it written down.

Thanks.

You've usually been the one posting results, so I just thought you might have them all together in your notes.

If someone could get their hands on a list, we can get it posted on the site.

I didn't bring my newsletters with me here to Iraq. The darned Army had me bring too many other things on the packing list like IBA, Kevlar, weapon,... that kinda stuff.

Here's a start:

2004: 1. Dale Rose 2. Rodney Hargis 3. Ron Parker

2003: 1. Ron Hamby 2. Dale Rose 3. ???

2002: 1. Ron Hamby 2. Rodney Hargis 3. Dale Rose

2001: 1. Gordie Stevens 2. Ron Hamby 3. Rodney Hargis

2000: 1. Ron Parker 2. ??? 3. ???

1999: 1. Rodney Hargis or Ron Hamby 2. ??? 3. ???

1998: 1. Rodney Hargis or Ron Hamby 2. ??? 3. ???

'98 and '99 is either Ron then Rodney or vice versa (not sure)

Anybody want to help with this crossword puzzle?

From the sound of the newsletter, I think Seymour has all these stats conveniently located, but this might be fun. I found most of it by searching, but there are some holes still.

I found a post for more in the "top 10" for 2001. Lucas Bruner was 4th, Charles Myers was 5th, and Ron Parker was 9th. Charrlie Schmid was "Rookie of the Year" that year.

In 2002 Jim Cox was 4th, Ron Parker 5th, Mike Reese 7th, Mike Jeffrey 10th and Oscar Derrick was Rookie of the Year.

I remember Tom Drake was "Rookie of the Year" a couple years back (probably 2003?).

If anyone has anything else they can add, please do. I'll put it together in a spreadsheet or something.

I'd love to have the "Top 10" and "Rookie of the Year" for every year if possible.

I should probably get out of this office more and get a real life... Oh wait, I'm in Baghdad! There is no life!

Okay, I've got most of 2001, 2002 and 2004. I still need help with '98, '99, '00, and '03.

Can anyone help out with the top 10 and Rookie for those years?

Rob

I just got a nice letter and package from Seymour. I have everything I need now to compile a complete list of champions. Once I get it all done I will forward it to Doc and/or Chuck to get posted.

I've got that list of all postings since 1999 with all names and points earned if anyone is interested.

At the end of last year we had 148 different people race and earn points at an event. There were obviously more racers and supporters and some racers that participated, but we didn't get their information.

With this year's Clay City race Rodney Hargis has taken over the top spot of total career points earned since the series officially began in 1999.

He has topped the 1,000 point mark and surpassed Ron Hamby who had earned 951 at the end of last year's racing.

Rodney has 1,008 right now and over 1,300 if you consider the 300+ he has given up over the years by participating in extra events.

Ron Hamby, the only multi-year winner with 3 National Championships to his credit, had given back 250 points at the end of last year. Bringing his career point total to 1,201.

It looks like this could be Rodney's year to re-claim the National Championship and become our second multi-year Champion. Rodney was considered the first year's champion in 1998 by virtue of winning more rounds and more events than any other racer. 1999 is the first year that points were awarded and records kept throughout the year.

Rodney has placed no lower than 6th every year since the series began and has placed 2nd two years, including last year when he finished 10 points (1 round) behind Dale Rose. Rodney is considered one of the guys to beat at every event and he is one of the most consistent racers in the series. And he does it without electronics or any fancy gadgetry. His racing package is one of the most straight forward and simple ones you'll find.

Going into the North Wilkesborro race this coming weekend there are two other racers looking to spoil Rodney's chances at that second Championship.

Another series veteran and former champion who has been in the top 10 every year since the beginning, Ron Parker with his "Slanted Attitude" '69 Dart. Ron's another one of the good ole foot brakin' kinda racers with a pretty straight forward racing package. He would love to beat Rodney to the punch of being the second multi-year champion and add 2005 to his 2000 championship.

The other racer with his his sights on Rodney (and Ron) at the North Wilkesborro race is somewhat of a newcomer not only to the series, but to drag racing in general. Norm Foster, a banker from North Georgia, earned 3 points in his first year with the series when he built himself a '74 Duster to join in the fun in 2002. That 3 points was enough to earn him 32nd place overall. Well, the racing bug bit Norm pretty hard and he got serious pretty quick. He continued to hone his racing skills and improve the Duster the next year by racing just about every Sunday at Paradise Dragway in North Georgia with other familiar names like Ron Parker and last year's champion Dale Rose. His efforts were good enough to bump him up to the 8th place spot for 2003. Still not satisfied, he decided to upgrade from the Duster to a purpose-built, tube-frame chassis car for the 2004 season when he scored a deal on a 1980's Challenger (Not the E body type :D ). He gave the Duster to his grandson to continue the tradition. Even with some new car bugs that he had to work out, like the hood flying off mid track at one race, he increased his standings to 6th place for the 2004 series last year.

Who will it be? Rodney Hargis, that likeable "youngster" from Tennessee? Or Ron Parker, the "Ole Possum" who is always in the hunt? Or will it be Norm Foster, who obviously has the desire to win?

Tune in next week to find out! Or better yet, make plans now to head to North Wilkesborro, NC next weekend and see for yourself!

This is "Rockin' Rob", your traveling Slant Six ambassador, reporting from the front lines (in Iraq), to bring you the latest in Slant Six drag racing action!

Thanks Ron.

I'm good to go over here. I've only got a little over three months left before I get to go back to Germany.

On the GodsRods front I could use some help finding a chassis builder to help finish up that Turismo project we started. You had mentioned quite some time ago that you had acquired a Rampage I think and said you had a builder that could convert it for you. I need help finishing up the front suspension and steering. If you could put me in touch with him or someone else that can do that work I'd appreciate it.

Other than that, just keep doin' what you're doin' and race the tires off that Dart. Just be sure to post the results here so those of us away from the action can follow along.

You've been a great help Ron and the kids and I sure do appreciate it. That transmission and converter will be spinnin' the tires again as soon as we can git-r-done!

Good luck at North Wilksboro to you and all the racers. From all the chatter it will probably be a pretty good turnout!
