I have been a on a quest to put a fan clutch in my car replacing the seven blase fixed fan i have in it. . I bought a Hayden clutch supposedly for our application. Bought a 7 blade clutch fan blade off a v8 duster at Memory lane. Total depth size 3.25 inches.

You guessed it, it did not fit, especially with my thicker 3 row radiator I have on my car.. I searched the archives and found that this is a problem many of us have, no room for a fan clutch.

Sunday I went to the 1/2 price sale at the U Pick Parts in Sunvalley looking for a electric fan that would fit my application (I WAS DETERMINED NOT TO REINSTALL MY FIXED BLADE FAN). I was having difficulty finding a twin fan set up that met my space requirements. I looked into a mercedes on a lark and I saw the 6 blade fan and clutch were designed to be very thin. I removedthe four bolts holding the assembly to the pully, dropped it into my wheeled carton and forgot about it. Never did find an electric fan I was happy with, and the Fiance was calling every 5 minutes warning me that we could not be late for her god daughters baptism (damn family obligations).

Cost me ten bucks. Went home, directly bolted in with no modifications. Works beutifully. I had the 4 short bolts I needed to mount to the pulley from the Duster Fan I picked up. I am happy, who would have thought. I reccomend this swap to any body who is having spacing difficulties with a fan Clutch. Only downside is that a new replacement clutch runs about $175. But I can always just comb the yards if i have any future problems.

Now that's a great piece of info to share. The Slant-6 is such a long engine that there's often no room up front for anything but a solid-mount fan. You've jogged an old, old memory -- there was a typewritten letter published in one of the early-1980s issues of Harry Aunes' "Slant-6 News" magazine, from a Valiant owner in Sweden, who made the same suggestion.

You say it bolted right onto the \6 water pump? Terrific! What's the total package depth?

Now you have me wondering if this'll work in a '62 Lancer's REALLY short engine bay...good work!

It was a little over 2", probaly 2.25". I suppose if I would have measured metrically I could have given exact millimeters.

The design is great the fan is designed to allow the clutch to fit "in" the structure of the fan so it is flat faced, no protusions like on american set ups. The material used on the fan is really light also. I was sure I would have to gring out the center hole a little but it was direct fit.

The engine was an inline 6 by the way.

These can't be easy to find in the yards around here, but it's always good to know that if I see one that it's a match.

Great find, I guess it figures that it's off another high quality six.

Hopefully the rotation of the motor is the same,something to think about.

Mopar performance has brought back the factory equipped viscous fan(aka clutch fan) for $103.88.Summit has them.Just a little FYI.

AFAIK, all automotive engines are CW rotation. The only counter-rotating engines are for twin screw marine applications.

I found plenty of original "Mopar" v-8 fan clutches n the yard they all were too long for my car, I know some f bodies 6s had them, but even they were too long.

Unless the new clutches are redesigned they will probably still be to long.

Is that CW from rear or from front? And, is it CCW south of the equator (like bathtub drains reverse rotation)? :lol:

Actually there are some cars that run clockwise,I believe the corvair is one of them.Who knows what the Germans did with the mercedes 280 se.

Most cars run counter clockwise.You tell by sitting in the seat and the direction of the flywheel.

La Swinger,did you measure without the spacer?On my 65 there seems like plenty of room.This is something I have contemplated on doing.
