so in my haynes(I know I need a service manual) it says that i need to take it (tranny) to a machine shop to replace the bushings at the same time as front seal I know most of the info ind this door stop is not meant to be followed but do yall think? It is a good idea?
It's a 74 904 and I don't have any real experience with fixing trannys can I replace the seal and call it good?
thanks for any help to get my daily driver back on the road
Rick

You can just replace the seal. If the snout on the converter is scored (the part that the seal rides on), then you may need a new converter. If it just happened, you should be fine. Put some grease around the new seal after installing it. Don't forget to support the rear of the engine when pulling the trans. I pulled my car on ramps when I replaced mine, and had plenty of room to pull out and put in the transmission. Get an extra pair of hands to help with the jack under the trans.

Don't worry too much about the bushing. You should check the snout (pump drive hub) of the converter for cracks though... Will need new conv if it's cracked.
