I recently acquired a 65 Valiant for use as a work car. The underside is clean, but a liberally slapped on bondo repair job did more damage than good, holding water against bare sheet metal in the quarters. The car now has holes behind the rear wheels, mostly the outer quarter, with the trunk extensions still in pretty good shape. I know I could weld in patch panels, but that isn't cheap. I don't know another source or patch panels aside from Laysons or Auto Body Specialties. I know neither of these companies actually manufacture the parts, so if someone knows the actual source, it could reduce the cost. Although I prefer to weld in a patch panel, is there another durable repair I could do? I've wondered about the POR15 floor repair system. Any comments, experience, thoughts would be appreciated. Not looking for a show car, just want something that won't bubble first time water hits it.

I've used POR-15 with fiberglas material to patch small (~1") inconspicous holes in the bottom of my Satellite and it's held up now for ~5 years just fine.

I cleaned with their MetalReady, put on a coat of POR-15, waited ~1/4 hr for it to get really sticky, laid on the (Duro fine-weave, not the hairy boat
type) fiberglas, then painted it with POR-15 silver, added a 2nd layer, painted that, and let it cure. The secret is to let the POR-15 get tacky enought to solidly hold the patch in place for you. Later I put on a 2 coats of Chassis Black on top of it.

Under the car, glossy black makes it very difficult to see what's covered and what isn't. I would suggest selecting a different color for each coat; I had to use a very thin fogging with spray primer between coats so I could see what I'd done.

It cures very fast on warm, humid days (like our whole summer down here). I've been very pleased with POR-15. It has held up very well everywhere except on the exhaust system; the manf. said it was OK on the mufflers back, but I wouldn't try it again; I would get their new high-temp stuff instead.
