Ok, so this isn't /actually/ about a slant six, but bear w/ me. At work today, a guy walked in carrying a bent up fan and fan cluth, attached to the nose of a SB chevy waterpump. Appearently he had bought it new (not reman) yesterday, and less than 20 miles later the nose had simply broekn off, throwing the fan though the radiator and into the hood. There were no visibly obvious bubbles or defects in the casting or along the fracture line. The body of the pump was still on the vehicle, so we didn't get to examine it (yet), but it should be interesting to see. Probably worth noting that the impeller was no longer attached. They said it was still in the main body. Neither me, my manager, nor anyone else had ever seen/heard of something like that happening. What about you guys? Ever heard of such? When the guy brings all the parts and pieces back for the labor claim I'll try to snap some pics.

I'll be interested to learn the brand and source of these "new" parts. I'd stake a two-four's worth that they're cruddy Chinese parts.

They are actually made by Airtex, but marketed by us under the name "Master Somethingoranother." I'll admit that not all of them are American made (we didn't have another of the SB chevy pumps because we only keep one in stock; the VW pump I pulled was made in Spain), but I have been told that they ultimately come from the same company that supplies the OEM's. Does anyone know if that's true, or at least plausible?

Made by Airtex, or just marketed by Airtex? Probably the latter. Most of the time, when there's a 2nd/econo/cheap-line brand ("MasterBlah") it's not US-made.

Made by Airtex. Checked today, and everything other than the VW pump is assembed in US or MX, mainly US. Also, they are not 2nd line pumps, but our best model. Don't ask me what the reasoning is in re-naming things, but it's not uncommon. (factory air becomes Murray, Purolater becomes Microgaurd, etc...)

Color me skeptical. Airtex's best pumps are branded...

...Airtex.
