Got an automatic tranny. Car runs good in Drive. When I put it in reverse it usually kills. When I restart it I have to rev it up to clear it out then power brake it a bit in reverse so it wont stall again..Any ideas???

Only when the engine's cold (on choke)? Or both when it's cold and warm?

So it stalls in reverse but not in drive under the EXACT same conditions?

That's wierd. Almost makes me wonder if the engine's moving around (bad motor mount) and sloshing fuel or moving a carb linkage.

Check any electrical wires that could short to ground. When you put it in reverse the engine tourque backward if a wire is bare it could short out. Have not seen this on a slant but did see this on my first car. A 59 chevy
Thanks Ron Parker :D :D

This is jogging a memory I will have to dig in my library to retrieve. I believe there is a transmission condition that can cause this odd symptom. Possibly a stuck overpressure relief valve. I'll dig, give me a day. The electric-wire suggestion is a good one, too.
