Yes, I know that SSD has said that either Cibies or GE h6024NH for replacement of headlights. So, I went to GE's lighting home page and saw that GE Headlights are availabe at Wally-world. Ugh. Generally I hate to set foot in the place for the sea of humanity you have to wade through to get through the check outs. But I did it.

And Lo' and behold GE H6024 but no NH's! So I grabbed the regulars.

Will these work well? Or should I be taking them back with my receipt for a refund. If I should return them, where the hell can i buy the Night hawks?

I believe the low beams are only 35 watts since they're not nighthawks......

I did make some headway today, but you're not going to like what I found. The GE order code for the H6024 Night Hawk is 28153. They are, for some strange and unexplained reason, twice the price of every other-size sealed beam in the Night Hawk line, that is if you can find someone stocking them (big "if"!)

The standard ones you got will work, but not nearly as well. It's very hard to find good sealed beams these days, because almost all of them are made on old/worn tooling and equipment, some of which (Sylvania, Wagner) wasn't much good even when new. Very few vehicles still use sealed beams, so they're considered a "legacy" product, which means very little money gets spent on improving or even maintaining their quality/performance. The reason the Night Hawks are different is that they have new optics made on new tooling, and an up-to-date filament assembly instead of the 1979-tech item found in other halogen sealed beams.

Unfortunately, it's a lot easier to find overhyped garbage (Sylvania Silverstar and Xtravision, Wagner TruView, and all the Chinese "EuroDezzzzine Diamond Cut Metal White" type crapola) than it is to get good lamps...

Dan, with the 2-piece headlamps, about what percentage of a good setup can be attributed to the bulb, and to the reflector??????????

(50% bulb/ 50% reflector......80bulb/20reflector.........??????bulb/??????reflector)


And is a good bulb in a so-so reflector better / worse than a so-so bulb in a good reflector??????

Well, it's sort of like asking how much of the oil you have to change. The optical system consists of the lens-reflector unit and the bulb. If either component is poorly designed, poorly made and/or in poor condition, you won't see well. The performance of even an excellent lens-reflector unit is spoiled by a bad bulb, and even the best bulb cannot turn a bad headlamp into a good one.

Buying bad lens-reflectors (and there are a lot of them available for purchase) is not a good way to save money. In case of tight budget, it's best to stay with stock-type headlamps and make them work as well as you possibly can (feed them properly with good wires, aim them properly), saving money towards a future headlamp upgrade if you wish to do so.
