it's just running like crap and it seems like everything i try to do makes it worse. i'm thinking that the carb needs to be adjusted by someone who knows what the hell they are doing.

Try adjusting the valves, on the loose side. Often a good place to start.

i'm over where the 110 and 5 freeways meet. near south pasadena

when i come off the freeway, the car likes to turn off and not turn back on. also, sometimes i get a pop from the carb.

holley 2300. i'm going to give the engine a full tune up, and then adjust valves, set timing correctly, and then set holley using a vac and tach gauge, take fuel pressure reading. then i will report back. i'm going to solve this problem.

but why would it turn off when i exit the freeway?

How you exit the freeway will help answer this question, and also how the car is acting in general. Turning left/right, heavy braking...=...fuel delivery problems, or the rare chance there is a loose wire causing shorts in the ignition....

It may be a few things, without hearing it run or more explanation there's no way to tell. If you do the full on tuneup, make sure you check the fuel delivery system.

so last night my father and i adjusted the valves, did a little timing experiment, cleaned the spark plugs, increased the flot in the fuel bowl and did some hard thinking.
this morning i went out to the car and installed my new tach and vacumng gauges.

happy to report that the tach reads about 700rpm in drive and i'm getting about 20 in vacuum.

car runs like a dream, it's running better than i've ever seen it run, and this is after nearly 3 years of owning it.

i have to express my thanks to everyone on this board, it just takes a little patience and some fatherly love to get your head in the zone and get this baby running right..

i'm doing about almost 60 in 1/8 of a mile. i haven't go the stop watch out yet.

went out for the fine adjustment today, car was still misfiring just a little bit, but i tackled that bad boy.
My dad has really been helping me out, he bought a new timing light for me!

so in terms of compression, what should i be getting from each cylinder?
they are bored 60 over and have new rings and the whole deal.

also, how often do the vavles need to be adjusted?

set int at 0.16 and ex at 0.020 then put a little green loctie on the treads it will hold the lash setting longer. do your lash setting when both int & ex are rocking at TDC on that cylinder you are setting, good luck. kept with it a slantsix is worth more than you will ever put in to it. :D

Factory spec is .010 and .020, but some people use other settings. When I ran raced in "stock elininator", I set my valve tight. About .006 and .012, with the engine very warmed up.
