I have been driving around with my 252S and noticed it is a pretty mild cam. I was wondering if anyone has had both the 252S and the 264S and could tell me what the driving difference is, if any. It looks like the 252 should have more torque but less high end. But the differences look small.

On a comparison drive between apples and oranges:(test vehicles)

My car with the the Hpak,3.55's, 3550 lbs, 252S was very torquey(good grunt from idle to about 4500)...still would pull to 6200 in 3rd, but kinda got flat in OD about 3500 (kinda hard to judge when doing over 100 mph)...

A 1966 Dart, Dual Webers, 3.23's 3200 lbs, 264S...felt like the torque didn't come on until about 1200 rpm(a little past idle...no side stepping the clutch possible) no car throwing torque(probably the long runners of the Hpak helped there), and seemed to be much happier in the 'top end'(3500+)

If you plug it into Desktop Dyno for 'fun' you'll notice you get the same 'specs' in power and torque curve for both, but the 264 comes on a few hundred rpm later (like a 500 rpm shift up), and the 252 piddles out earlier...

Thanks for the response.

I like the 252S. It has a lot of grunt in the low end (that is mainly where I will drive it, being a truck and all). I would like it to sound a little more menacing, though (it has a FlowMaster Series 50).
I guess I am better off with the 252, but was wondering what it would be like to have a SL6 that I could unleash, unfettered by daily driver capabilities.

Anymore food for dreams you would like to share?

headers and the flowmaster will help the sound. i have the clifford shorty headers and a flowmaster w/2.5" single exhaust on my dart and a lot of people thinks its a v8. i am also running a compcams 252s. if you look at comp's website it says this cam is good from idle to 4500. the 264s it says will pull from 1500 to 5500.

Well, I can tell you that a street car with a .558 Clifford and a bottle is kinda thrilling.
