I'm pushing for a slant six race, at this event. The promoter is willing, to do it.

If you could offer advice on aquireing some sponsorship for the race, would be a help. I really don't know how to go about that. With some sponsors, it would more likely be put in the schedule and bring in more/faster cars.

I'll kick in a couple hundred and shoot a few emails around to folks I know there in Georgia.

Have you approached Lawrence Roundtree yet? I assume he is not the sponsor of this event and there may be some competition thing there that will prevent him from participating, but he may still be a good resource of knowledge and certainly knows many of the local Mopar friendly operations.

Has it been determined yet if this race will be one of "The Slant 6 Series" races? Or is that going to be decided at the banquet?

Is the promoter willing to offer a percentage of the entry fee as a payout?

When does he need a final commitment from you on sponsors, etc?

There are two or three Mopar Clubs that operate in that area (Central Georgia, North Florida, North Georgia has some members too)

Also see what Chrysler dealerships are local. With this being a first for this Mopar event there may be some interest there in getting in on "the ground floor".

I'll do some searching around and get back to you.

I just got the link to work.... never mind the clubs and dealerships thing... looks like that's been done

Those clubs may have members with businesses that would be willing to help out for a little exposure. You could ask the local clubs to mention at their monthly meetings that you are looking for some help to promote a Slant 6 class race.

I can help a little through emails and such if you'd like.

I gave Seymour, the contact info for the track manager, in november, but as of last week, no contact has been made. Track manager, told me, he was willing/would like to have a Slant Six Race. Hope to get some support for this at the banquet. We'll see what happens. This would be good for the Florida guys, as the track is only about 3 hours from me.

We can not keep throwing things on Seymours plate.
If you guys want a race down there then someone needs to contact them this week. Get dates, purse, entry fees and any other information they can give you at this time. Someone agree to take on all the responsibility(not seymour) and coordinate the race and present it at the Banquet this weekend. As long as it is an open date and someone is doing the legwork then why not have it. The more races the merrier as long as you do not have two races on the same weekend.

Farmington allows us to run our race with free entry as long as you enter one of the other drag classes and I provide the purse/bonus money. Two races for the price of one. As long as you are not asking the promoter to take money out of their pocket then most are open to this arrangement. They get more entries into there other categories and another class for the spectators.
Truth be told most slant six racers would race for the points and no purse! If that is what happens the first year then so be it and get to work on a sponsor for next year.

Tom

Tom, that is fine by me. I will do as much as I can. I just gave the contact info to Seymour, because I did not have any idea of the arrangments, we had with different tracks.

I was also under the impression that Seymour wanted to "check things out" before committing to any new race for "The Series".

Tom, whatever help or advice you can offer would be great. You've probably got the most experience at this sort of thing.

Charrlie, I can help sponsor a couple hundred dollars for a purse and am willing to help coordinate however I can through phone calls and emails. Just let me know how to help.

If I can work out our trip to Georgia for AJ and Kendall's graduation so that it will coincide with the race I will show up and help on the ground as well. Heck, I may even be able to get the GodsRods Duster out of moth balls as well (we'll see...  )

Charrlie - If you are coming to the banquet then call the promotor or track operator and get all of the info you can and bring it with you.

Any info they can give you now would help everyone make a better decision on wether or not you should pursue putting a race there this year.

Hey Charlie, we are going to dicuss the Southern Nationals at the next meeting of the Middle Georgia Mopar Club (feb 11th). If you give me some way to contact you I might be able to get some of the guys to help you out. Bill Butler Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep just gave us $1,000 dollars for the show.

PM me a phone number or an E-mail Adress or something.

OK, The Slant Six race at the Mopar Southern Nationls, will be a points race. It will be free entry, with a paid entry into the pro or super pro race. The promoter is putting up $300 to win with 8 cars, and $500 to win with 12 cars. His money is for winner only. Rob Simmons is putting $200 into the purse. If anyone knows of any possible sponsors, please let me know. If we can get some sponsorship, we can pay more places down the ladder, and maybe some special awards. Even merchandise is welcome.
The gates will open at noon on friday (test and tune), we will have a common pit area (fully paved), and the slant six points race will be on Saturday, with Sunday a rain date. Overnite camping (no hookups) allowed.
Check out the Website, for more details

http://www.clintsummerlin.com/mopar_southern_nationals/
The site will be updated to show the slant six race , in about 7-10 days.
This is a good chance for you Florida and south Georgia slanters, that wanted to race, but didn't want to travel 300-400 miles. Please support this race, so it can be a yearly event.
