Ok, How do i go about making the pin diameter of the 2.2L KB's jive with the 198cui /6 rods? (Which i still REALLY NEED A SET)

OR

Anyone got a good set of oversized higher CR 225 pistons?

well. buy 6 cima/mahle forged pistons (intended for vw type 1, 2 and 3 engines...theres loads of shops for those in states.) 88 mm or 87 mm and put 198 rods, with a bushing for 22 mm pistonpin.

1. you get hi-quality forged pistons
2. you get higher compression
3. you get floating pins
4. you get those pistons for dirt cheap. 100 bucks, or less
5. you get faster revving engine
6. you get lots of weight off the rotating masses.
7. sorry my english

They should be the same size already. On mine, we honed the rod and made them full floating, steel on steel. If I do another one, I'll just have the pins pressed, floating them was a "just in case" because we didn't know what the deck height would be. Dennis

That sounds great! What does the compression ratio come out to be with the VW pistons?

well...the piston sits -2 mm under the deck...

if i remember correctly, its somewhere 10 the compression...damn i had to calculate it...

the pistons are light, sorry i dont have the weight now, but i will get it when i am in garage...
the machinist i used took a bushing out of a volvo, but i think its not a problem to locate those...

Dennis, I checked the Keith Black website and it lists the KB239 as having a .9009 pin. The 198 rod uses a .9012 pin, right? What does floating mean and how is it done? THANKS! Darrin

Don't sweat the .0003 size difference here, we are basically talking about cutting a hair into 10 even strips, picking one, then slicing that in 1/2 for the per side hole size difference. (.00015)

Depending on how your rod's "small-end" holes "land" in the mfg. tolerance range, there is a potential issue here IF you are using a "pressed pin" set-up and the tolerances "stack-up" the wrong way, ie, a small pin in a large rod hole. (I never really run into this seeing that production machinists tend to stay to the "small side" of an IDs tolerance range and the "large side" on ODs., the old saying being that it is easer to take more metal off then to put metal back on!)

If you go "full floating", ( where the pin moves freely in the piston *and* the rod's small end hole)the rod's pin hole will need to be opened-up even more then the .9012 size it is theoricly at now. Bottomline is this combo is "right there" size wise and will only need a final hone to "dust" the small end into perfect size for your choosen set-up. (pressed or full float)
