1. should the heat riser move back and forth when i give it throttle or should it open up and just stay there when the eng gets hot? mine goes back and forth. also my spring steel "stop" broke in front of the spring. 2. looking aft, which way is the heat riser open when it turns left or right? 3. since my stop broke, the valve gets stuck to the right when looking aft. 4. nobody has a spring kit in the resto mags for a slant 6. can i get 1? 5. can i wire the heat riser open if i can't get the spring kit? 6. thanks doug, i'm drainin the radiator right after this to see if it's clear of crap.

The valve moves on throttle up and down.

2. looking aft, which way is the

facing the firewall, it rotates counterclcockwise when the carb is opened

I don't understand. IS that stuck open or stuck closed?

Off another car.
5. can i wire the heat riser

Yes. I have found htat the later manifolds have better flaps and you might be better off swithcing manifolds. However, i have had those flaps fall completely to peices externally and not noticed any exessive heat or loss of performance.. Even when it is in hte fully closed position it doesnt seal and it bypases like crazy. It is more of a director flap than a valve. It just speads up hte preheat of the carb.
