Quote: i haven't scanned back far enough in the thread but did motor/trans go in together or separate? was it working before the transbrake?
Motor and trans went in separate. I thought the convertor dropped into place because I had to rotate it a couple turns to get it to drop into place.the reason i ask is that one time i installed a torque converter and didn't seat it all the way in. started it up and it ran fine for awhile, but then the next time we went to move the car nothing would happen.. i ended up wiping out the pump in the trans. did the converter go "all the way in? I just drained it and the fluid looked clean and there didn't appear to be any metal in the pan. Valve body is bolted in tight and it had the deep extension on the filter. The shift linkage is moving and I don't see anything obviously wrong. I did hook the wire back up to the trans brake solonoid and when I push the button I can not hear or feel anything. Should I be able to feel it do something? At this point I think I will just pull it out and install my stock transmission. Of course I will take a look inside the pump housing to see if anything looks amiss. But since this is all above my head, I will likely have to hand it off to someone who knows what they are doing anyway. I can at least run my stock transmission until it starts to slip. Update - I just unbolted the convertor and it pushed right back away from the flex plate with about a 1/4" gap and it rotates easily. So I'm pretty sure it was seated in the pump correctly. Pulling it out tomorrow evening. |

I like Greg's idea of unbolting the valve body to see if it got hung up and the passages are not holding pressure. You did a line pressure test? Best, Lou |

With the convertor removed you should be able to see the "ears" on the pump behind the seal. They can shear off more easily than you would think. Will |

Yes the ears are sheared off. I can see a piece in behind the seal. Now I know how easy that is! So I am putting my old transmission back in and running that until I can get someone with some smarts to take a look at this one for me. I can fix the pump gear but I need someone to help me with the Transbrake solonoid and verify that it is working. I don't want to install and remove it 2 times if I don't have to. Since I have 2 other projects to get into my garage, and I have help this evening, I will slide my old one back in tonight. Thanks for the help guys! I'm sure I'll ask again! Rick |

Glad to hear you found the problem at least. Slant on, Lou |

Old transmission is back in and I have all the gears! Adjusted both bands before I put the pan back up. Once I get the hood back on I will take it over for the alignment. A little bit of carburetor adjustments and it should be ready for a T&T. |

Probably not. My car is still in storage. Still trying to get the dash and windshield back in the Grüne Hölle project. Greg |

Rick, been following this tranny issue, what caused the ears to shear? And I assume the ears mentioned drive the front pump? |

John, I haven't got the slightest idea? Yes it drives the front pump.

It seems to be a luck of the draw type of thing. I had one do it after turning on to the return road at RT 66. Buddy had one do it on a 727 in a Hemi Dart backing out of the trailer. |

John I think you should bring your car to Mason Dixon in May and we can talk about it! |
