NAH! It NEVER does that. Besides, you can't hear it over the exhaust, the squeeks, or the rattle from home-made swaybar disconnect that I never bothered to reconnect or remove. Its easier to store this way ;-)

Okay getting back to the riser topic

At whatever times the flapper is opened to the max, it looks to me like the dead space created changes the heat from forced air to radiated.
I today was sorting out a used recently purchased backup manifold before getting it ready for temporary installation. It has typical issues such busted studs, etc. Coming from the V8 world, "removing" the working heat riser was on my list. I'm in So Fla, I'm all about power, I don't need no stinking heat riser. Well, I looked it over closely, and it was quite obvious how it worked, and little upside would exist by removing it, and definite downsides would result IMO. Had I read that this thread prior, I would have reached the same conclusion that has already been voiced here..

Car is being initially set-up for EFI (ie, manifold will be dry), and after a bit more sorting out, it will be later changed over to a turbo, and use another custom exhaust manifold

I will for now dog off the heat riser. This is my question, anything I could do reduce the "farting", "swirling", "radiate" heat from having an easy path upwards? I understand to some, this splitting hairs, and I get that. My first thought was packing the space above the flapper, not densely, with coarse SS wool. Other ideas?
