The copper sealer is not as good as the "Ultra Black" on intake, timing chain and pan gaskets. |

I think I have the leaks licked, and I have the exhaust patched up to where it is at least driveable. Still a touch loud for my tastes, and I can hear the leaks BRRRFFFFF-ing at the welds I made, but this will last me until I can afford to pay someone to weld me up a real exhaust line. Whew. On the positive side, I found out my A/C still works, and works great! Ice cold freon. |

A couple days ago I discovered that one of the short hoses attached to the fuel filter was so old it had cracked in several places and was spraying gas on the engine! |

Nope! It is all HEI and an old EI distributor. Still starts up easy too. Haven't taken it out to test for pinging on acceleration though. Idle mixture screws are at 1.25 turns out. This carb likes to idle lean. If I start at 2 turns out the idle is actually rough until I lean it up. |

That's probably too much initial timing unless you've restricted the mechanical advance significantly. I've run too much initial and while it feels good at low and medium speeds it over advances at higher engine speeds, makes a lot of negative torque and slows the car down. |

OK, I'll dial it down a bit then. I haven't done any recurving on this distributor. I just know it came out of a 80s truck or ramcharger. |
