OK...I'll spill the beans....I went ahead and ordered one...might return it if I think the 130 tooth flywheel won't fit. But, the reason I ordered one is they've dropped the price to $511. My guess is they're gonna sell them off then that's it. |

I don't think a130 tooth will fit. Some of the bell to block bolts were behind the flywheel on my truck 130 tooth bell.

Before you send that back, make a copy of the block plate. You could make an adapter to a small or big block bellhousing or order a qt small block bellhousing and use the pattern to drill the slant pattern in the small block block plate.
Here's the photo. It looks like the bell runs all the way out to the block-to-bell bolt holes, which is good. It sure doesn't look like a very deep bell, though. If you look at the starter mount, it's a pretty simple piece of flat plate. I'm wondering if I could cut it off and/or modify it with the proper spacing away from the crank centerline. That's all that really matters to the starter. |

Quote: That may work for some vehicles but likely will not fit in an early A body. Plus it is not a blow proof. Protecting our feet and legs is the issue when racing.
Should fit, ealy a-bodies had small blocks with manuals.

Yeah...had a 65 cuda with a 360 4 speed that we had used a later 'big' bell and clutch in. It fit. So I dug out a Schiefer flywheel that I bought on ebay a million years ago....it's a 130 tooth flywheel...and put it on a 170. The good news is it fits.....there's about .360" clearance between the bolt shank and the teeth. That's not much but it's plenty 'if' you design the bellhousing to suit. I'm optimistic the QT will fit, but that remains to be seen. I also have a 143 tooth flywheel...no way will that fit!

That would be very nice if it fits. Let us because that would be a game changer for sure! |

I kinda realized, too, that the starter could probably be 'hinged' off of one bolt then only one new hole would need to be provided. And after I realized that, I realized that some of the Lakewood bells I have for V8's do just that - they have two holes on one side. The closer in hole is for the 130 tooth flywheel and the further out hole is for the 143 tooth. Most things I think of, someone thought of before! |

I hope it fits, that would be great. The plate that fits the trans could be removed and replaced with one to fit almost any trans. |

Yep. Believe me, I have no intention of using it to install an A833! I also dug out some old discs and pressure plates .... I don't have a 10.5" setup but the Scheifer flywheel is drilled for an 11" clutch and the 11" pieces I have fit. I'm not sure that's a good thing but it's something to think about.... |

The QT bell arrived today.... Here it is bolted to the 170. No interference issue with the flywheel, not even close. It also holds an 11" clutch. I didn't look at a throwout bearing but since the bell is the standard Mopar depth I don't foresee any fit issues. The starter is 'off' as we knew it would be, but since the bell is made of steel that easily remedied with a Sawzall and welder.... I'm not sure if I gonna modify the bell right now, since I have other projects going on, but I also don't intend to return the bellhousing since it seems to open a lot of doors. For some reason, you need to click on the photos for proper orientation...

Why is the starter "off"? Is it because you are using a larger than usual flywheel here with this bell housing? Greg |

Yes. The starter position is meant to fit up to a 122 tooth flywheel. So the larger diameter of the 130 tooth flywheel extends into the starter area. As as aside, this is a nicely made part...heavy, but well made. I kinda thought the newer bells would be not as good as the old Lakewood stuff but this one is actually nicer. |
