Lou, do you have adapter pictures? Happy Thanksgiving! Now get back to work!

I was just about to post. I will keep you in suspense for a day or two more on the pics. I received the prototype plate Tues eve and roughly bolted it up this morning. Really nicely made. The low starter hole will fit an unmodified mini starter, it appears. The uppper hole will need the nose cut off the starter. I will do this and check fitment and starter engagement. More to come soon...

Larry says they will start on these plates right away and it should not be more than 2-3 weeks. Now I need to find a suitable trans!

I think the late 90's/early 2000's ministarters for the magnum engines are not equipped with the nosecone. Rather than cutting up a starter it might be easier to find one of these in a junkyard for cheap.

FYI.

Hi DI,

Thanks for that helpful idea! I have 2 extra mini starters on the floor and want to verify fitment today, so I'll prolly just cut one up. It looks like the upper starter location would have the nosecone hit the GM trans, so that's why Wilcap specifies it be cut off.

FYI, folks can get a modified starter outright from Wilcap for about $175.

Update and pics coming soon.

Guys,

Here are pics of the Wilcap prototype plate mounted on a spare 225 engine in my garage. Please feel free to ask questions.

The starter is bolted into the "low" postion, and I need to cut up a starter to fit the standard "high" location. Every plate will have both starter locations machined, so you can choose, or if you convert to 20:1 diesel application you can run dual starters.  Everything looks wonderful to me. Total wt for the kit is 23 +/-1 lbs. There is room (wider "ears") to mount to this as a midplate on a racecar, or add strengthening supports to the engine or frame, or you can grind these things off if you like.

Unless there are objections right away, I will be calling Larry at Wilcap today to give them the go ahead on the rest of the plates.

Cheers,

Lou

I called Wilcap today and gave them the go ahead. They will start on these Monday and should be done in about 2 weeks, according to Larry and Pat.

Man, now I need to buy a tranny and converter...

Should I order a large tipi for my backyard and you can come deliver it? I wonder if we can meet in person in 2013?

Cheers, Lou

VERY nice!!

I may have to look into this someday..

For now though, I think I will see if I can get my Valiant to work the way it's supposed to before I try something different!

VERY interested in this.. I still have a couple 4L60's around that I might like to someday use on my Valiant.

How long before Wilcap ships the rest of them?

Author:  Dart270 [ Fri Nov 30, 2012 2:06 pm ]

I had them make an extra plate if someone wants to buy it later.

I stated above when I think Wilcap will ship. They were not extremely precise.
