Hi Bruce, Glad to hear it. That was fast. Andy might be first one to install? It will be a little while for me, most likely. Best, Lou |

hello. i tried calling extreme and got an answering machine advising the best way to contact them is email. sent another email to them monday and still no reply. at first it seemed they were enthusiastic about my project, but i am losing confidence. i called "monster trans" and the girl who answered was well versed in making sure i know they are the official "speed tv" transmission. then spent 10 minutes trashing the 200-4r and trying to sell me a 700-4r. my guess is they aren't having any success with the 200. hard to believe they bad talk a product they advertise. kinda makes you wonder. although they have a pretty complete conversion kit with converter, brackets, cables, lockup kit and mount. i sent an email to "bowtie overdrives" and have not received any response. the last good transmission shop in my town closed a couple years ago. i think i will try to shop around locally for a good shop. (good luck with that) i should give a thumbs up to patrick at A+A transmissions. when i spoke with him a few months ago about doing a 904, he spent at least 15 to 30 minutes with me on each of three conversations. very good individual attention and nice guy. i imagine most of the good tranny shops are busy building for serious racers now in the off season. more to come, andy. |

Where are you sourcing a converter from? |

Update: I have shipped the 3 kits that were fully paid for, and they have all been received. Still waiting for 2 more fund completions to ship other long distance ones (TX and MN). Expecting payment for the one extra kit from a gentleman in SC soon, and then will ship that one. Rob Simmons indicated he would sell his if someone new wants it, and I can handle that deal. Best, Lou |

hello. i contacted extreme 4 days ago stating i am ready to buy. still no reply. no luck locally, so i am going to give monster a call and see if they can do 3rd and 4th lockup, and about a 9.5 or 10 inch converter. most of the ones i have found on the web are 12 inch. here is the kit i'm looking at, lockup in 4th only. http://racetransmissions.com/store/prod ... cts_id/314 lou, have you had any luck with extreme? andy. |

This is totally on the back burner for me. Will be at least 2 mo before I start thinking about this swap again. Trying to get '64 Dart Supercar back together. Good luck. Lou |

Post subject: | bowtie overdrives |
after some calls and emails i have decided to buy from bowtie overdrives. their setup has lockup in 2-3-4. good reviews and seemingly good tech support. i was wondering if anyone can give a recommendation on stall speed. they are only offering 12 inch diameter converters. 1500 - 5000 power band, desktop dyno has my engine at 225 hp and 300 ft./lbs at flywhhel. 3.92 rear gear. thanks, andy. |

Sounds like great news on the Bowtie ODs. I would love lockup in 2-3-4. Cost?? Don't even consider a 12" converter. You want a 11" at absolute max, and 9.5-10" might be better. I have a nearly maxed out (for stall) 11" LU unit in my A500 Slant and it stalls around 2300. Not enough for me, for the cam/engine combo you have. A more mundane 11" will stall around the stock speed (1600-1800). Lou |

lou, the quote i have is for a stage 1, i will prob go with a stage 2 for 200 bucks more. they require you to buy an installation kit, 69 bucks, including a pressure gauge, temp gauge, and inline filter, then when you get your trans installed you call them with info gathered from the gauges and they get you set up from there. just under 2 grand using their converter w/175 buck discount special on converter. i will post the quote when i get home later. all of the 9.5 or 10 inch converters i have found (none from bowtie) are 500 - 600 bucks. i will find out if bowtie can provide a smaller one. still unclear on how to choose stall, do i add to v8 rating or subtract? andy. |

Sounds promising. You can take a converter rated for a smallblock V8 and multiply that stall by about 65-75%. So, a 3500 stall on a V8 will stall around 2600 on a Slant. Lou |
