Took the car down the road for a test run, after doing all the work to it and everything worked great! Car feels really good/fast, but that could all be in my head. But losing 120# should have helped. New aluminum master cylinder works superb! Much better brakes than with the old cast iron one. I would guess this one has a smaller piston, although I can't remember. Then on Wednesday I drove it the 3-4 miles over to Ryan's for a bit of a car show, and it ran fine. With 4.30 gears and a motor that runs 12's the temperature never got up to 160 even though I warmed it up some before I left. Didn't even turn the electric fan on till I was over 1/2 way home when I left. Thankful for a good aluminum radiator! Now if we could just get to a race and see what this thing will do!! |

Super work, Rick! 120 lbs is no joke and you can feel a difference. I still need to weigh the white 62 - curious... Lou |

Sounds Good. What Master Cylinder did you choose? Why don't you take it to Mason Dixon for some Test n Tune? Greg |

So I finally made it out to Mason Dixon for a T&T last night. We had a little grudge race between Austin Houpt, who raced with us a couple times and myself. Austin has a nice 65 Mustang, 289 4 speed, It has a high performance engine in it with 3.50 gears. We raced 5 times and the old Slant 6 won all 5 times. The best he could muster was a 13.66! To be fair the gears killed him on take off and he had a bad bog with the sticky tires he was running. On run number 5 he left his 9" rear or the axles in pieces inside the housing. My Valiant which is basically the same as when I parked it last Fall, less 120#, ran a 13.00 @ 100.6 first round in very bad air. After a cool down of about 30 minutes and a drop in temperature to about 82 degrees(still with 90%humidity) the car ran a best ever 12.84 @ 102. I really had a great time and did feel bad for Austin. He had about 8 people come to watch his Mustang eat my Valiant alive! I sat in my lawn chair, drank water and ate chips as they worked and adjusted the Ford each run trying to catch the little lowly Slant 6 I even offered to tow his car home! That's what friends do |
