 Thanks everyone, please keep the ideas and advice coming. The hardest thing I'm dealing with is that the numbers stamped on the top front of the block were machined off, so I'm still trying to figure out if it's a 76-77 engine that according to the Mopar six cylinder book uses a different damper. I'm gonna look over the crank for a part number and see if that will tell us something. Thanks again. RICK  okay I found a number on this crank : 4095246-7
I"ve noticed that reference in the Mopar enigne book about the 1976-7 damper too. Thing is.... I think that is the last time that section of the book was updated and they keep printing the same outdated information in every revision since then. The only difference in those years is the change from the forged to the cast crank. What I do not know is if the forged and cast cranks require different dampers or not.

8) I know what you mean Craig, the lack of updates in some pubs leads to confusion and extra work. However I believe I've narrowed my engine's birthday down to 1979/1980 based on the part numbers that they have. I found Doctor Doug and Al Toews engine parts breakdown found elsewhere on this site to be an absolute goldmine of information for a newby like me. I've come up with a pair of 4" bolt pattern Centerline front wheels (3 1/2) and I've collected all the parts for the third member (8 3/4) and will probably go with a 4.30 gear. I'll probably go with a 3500-3800 converter from the Continental folks. RICK

:D My car builder called me last night to ask me how I wanted a few things done on my Dart roller, therefore, he MUST be working on it, so after only two years, I might be finally getting my Slant racer together. Hey! wait a minute....This means I gotta build the actual race car! No more excuses! Holy Smokes! See you guys at the Monster. (less racecar of course) RICK

 No more procrastinating, as I FINALLY picked up my slant six Dart project from the chassis shop after only a two year wait. Pictures to follow, if I can figure out how to post them on a computer. I hope I can remember where I've stored all the stuff I've collected for the darn thing. First thing I need to do is remove the manual pedal assembly I promised to swap for an auto one. I'll be listing parts very soon, if anyone needs anything let me know, they'll be going cheap. RICK

If you see the dampers side by side you will instantly notice the difference. Steel crank damper has 3 spokes and a cast cranker has 6. They are interchangeable anyway. :D

Dago, congrats on getting the car back and underway.

Post subject:  mopar header

Congrats on getting going on it. My stuff has been sitting too long, and is awaiting a nice new concrete pad to work on.

About the header, it wasn't much more work than putting in a header that is listed as 'fitting' on other cars, if you know what I mean about headers. A big thick washer 1/8" we used on the driver side motor mount, to tilt the motor away from the steering box. Tubes 1, 3, 4 need to be dented near the steering box, 3 being the most dented. Also, a small area facing the front of the car needs to be smushed back away from the drag link (where all the tubes are together). My header was actually in someone else's '66 Dart before mine, and I think a few of the dents are too much, looking at the clearance needed.

Holey Moley!! That's exciting. You can't post pics here, but you can post on something like flickr.com and then make a link to here.

Happy building and hope to meet you in Kearney!!!

 I stand a better chance finishing this thing than the Stars making the playoffs. I'd look for the Sharks and the Penquins again. This years upset possiblities are the Caps and Colorado.

Plus the fact that the Stars owner is in a tinkling contest with the local sports channel on the telly......We don't get about 1/3 the games. I've re-discovered that it don't get much better than listening to the game on the radio, whilst you thrash away on the car.

Once the Canucks have finished their super road trip you might look at them....

I agree about listening to hockey. If you know the game its all the same.

Really... Hmmm.... Nothing new there....

I am still fuming over it.... damn @ss hole took my NORTH Stars because "he wasn't making any money in MN". That SOB had the 2nd largest gross profit in the NHL!!! Just cause he pi$$ed it away.... I need a drink.
