I vote ngk they seem to always be good quality and reliable .I used to use champions and autolites in my go carts,4wheelers,and dirt bikes and when I switched to ngk I got 10 times the life out of my plugs. I love it when people bring in cars with vatozone bosh plugs and cant understand why their car doesint run or idle right " I just tuned it up and used those high quality bosh plugs and it still doesnt run right, is it a sensor thats what they(autozone)told me"

NGK in everything.... I started with NGK in high power chain saws. They made such a difference I started using them in other things. |

They're definitely more efficient -- at pulling money out of your wallet when you buy them. There's nothing new or groundbreaking about them, and the maker's claim that "the spark plug hasn't changed since 1904" is idiotic. I had to give them credit for at least having some valid science on their site. I called them up -- it was almost impossible to find their phone number; they've worked very hard to keep it hidden. It was nowhere on their site, and they deliberately left it off their domain registration's whois info. I did find it, though, and spoke to the guy who answered the phone. He claims the plug was designed by Champion's retired head spark plug engineer from the 1960s, who oversees production of the plugs...in China...by a subcontractor of a subcontractor. Whee, are we havin' fun yet?  It's all sizzle, no steak. All hat, no cowboy. All litterbox, no cat. Gimmicky spark plug scams are nothing new. Back in the days of gas price wars that started at 29¢/gallon and went downward from there, JC Witless had full-page ads hollering RUN YOUR CAR WITHOUT SPARK PLUGS! Back then they called 'em "fire injectors" rather than "E3" or "pulse plugs", but the claims, hype, handwaving and pseudoscience were just about the same.

I put Autolite double platinum plugs in my Neon because it's a waste-spark ignition system. The Champions which were in the car had worn from a .035" gap to ~.041". In waste spark systems the spark jumps from the side electrode to the center in 1/2 the cylinders. In the other cylinders it jumps from center to side (ground) like with a distributor. The Autolite package said made in Mexico and I was not impressed with the quality control. Will not buy again. They seem to be performing fine, but feel I should have gone with NGK V-power.

For high compression street/strip and racing applications Autolite has a couple good choices in an Iridium. The small wire electrode decreases the likelyhood of a hot spot and detonation on the high end. The XS3922DP is basically the ZFR6FIX-11, but one heat range colder. The XP5224 is the same heat range as the ZFR6FIX-11, and is more readily available than the NGK offering. I ran a set of these all last year, and they work just fine. Absolutely no problems. If I were to put the hose to it or try to put forced induction on, the XS3922DP would probably be my choice. It's important to note that the ZFR6FIX is not an extended electrode plug like it's stable-mate the ZFR5N. For high compression applications, extended electrodes are not desireable. Detonation issues can be an issue with them. I experienced this with the Hooptie running the ZFR5N at 11:1 static and a very high cylinder pressure running the Erson RV15M RDP grind in my long rod stroker. CJ |
