'Cause for '64 they introduced the in-pan Dacron filter (replacing the '60-'63 in-pan screen with in-line cannister style filter) and increased the fluid change interval to "never" for normal service and 50k miles for severe service. This allowed them to justify deleting the pan drain plug to cost-reduce the pan and eliminate a potential leak point. I'm with you: Gimme a drain plug!
