I bought the Haynes Repair Manual for RWD Mopars 1971 - 1989, it has been very helpful; also browsing this site is great... there is a forum regarding tuning up, and read a good advice given to other Slanter about dialing it in (guess that is the right term). But there are a lot of loose ends. I will keep posting questions and results... hope not to be anoying. Thanks, Ed |

It is not a Nova (did you mean Chevy?)..., it is a Valiant Duster 74. This car is the Mexican version of the Dart Sport. The main difference between the Mexican Duster and the US Dart Sport are the tail lights, the Mexican model did not have the four square lenses until 76, year in which the front grill changed exactly as the US Duster. There were no Plymouths in Mexico in the 70's, only Dodge and Valiant. The Mexican Valiant versions were similar to the US Plymouths Here is another pic on the side, sorry it was dirty then, now it is a beauty.

Well I didnt know how the cars in mexico are different from the us. built ones, so it was nice to get some info on it... So, how are things going, except reading and cleaning? Have you got some ideas about what you are going to do with it? And that is the first time I have been compared to the pope... But I guess it will be the last too |

But I guess it will be the last too Hopefully It's a very spanish languaged comparision tht's actually funny, since in about two months they gonna have to teach him how to pray and maybe some diapers would be involved.... (no offense intended neither to you, rust collector, or to the pope) Hola Dustermunster que hay guey, te sirvió de algo la info que escribÃ? si tienes ganas y tiemo visìta www.clubdodge.com.ar y fÃjate por lso foros, un artÃculo que ecribà hace tiempo y que se llama RECURVANDO EL DISTRIBUIDOR. Rust, I planned to start today with all the advices given by you and the other guys in this forum regarding timing and dialing it in... but in an earlier post I mention that my carburator started to spill a lot of gasoline. I already checked a lot and could not find the problem. I opened it to check it from the inside and nothing was wrong, I bought the gasket set and a carburator cleaning spray. The float is ok and everything seems to be in place, even a small "ball" that fits in; but still there is a gas flood in my engine bay. So I decided to replace the carb with a recon... it is not expensive, about $750.00 pesos ($68.00 dollars) including the core credit. I will pick it up tonight to proceed with the timing adjustments that are my headache. Juan: Of course it was of great help what you wrote, thanks a lot... I just need to install back the carb and will see if I can achieve the task. Gracias por tu invitación a clubdodge.com.ar inmediatamente leere tu artÃculo, seguro es muy interesante y me servirá mucho. Y gracias por usar el término "guey", lo siento muy mexicano. I will contact you for sure directly. This guy is a genius and a very cool guy, he even plays the sax and restores vintage musical instruments... way to go Juan. |

Great distributor article Juan, a little bit too advanced for my current Slanter status but will work on that... sounds great, more power and less fuel consumption. You should translate that into English and publish it here in the articles section. Ed |

I've seen your posts here DusterMunster, seems you're having fun with your car. Keep it up, all the headaches are worthed when you see the final result and realize how much you have learned. Just an advise: be very careful when tampering with gasoline, I read your post in which you mention the deluge of fuel. I had once a '75 Scamp that caught fire with a similar problem. Gasoline is very flamable and I didnt know that it could ignite with the heat of the exhaust manifold. I can see you've got good advices in here. Keep asking, and pay close attention to each suggestion and advice, I saw you are not experienced, but it seems Rust Collector, argentina-slantsixer, Slant6Ram and the others are helping a lot. Good luck CL. |
