It was disco'd in the last few years; if you have a 5- or 6-year old catalogue it ought to be in there. I will be very pleasantly surprised if you find a cross for it; there were no crosses to other filter makers when I checked about 12 years ago.
In the online catalog today at the parts store, they had an AC Delco part number that came up as well, but I didn't really pay attention any closer than that.

The external transmission filter step was going to try and locate.

Interesting. I don't show one in my ACD book. See if you can re-grab that number, willya?

I looked in the SMH online parts catalog (had to call a friend for the password) and found a Wix number. 58964 this filter also has a magnet in it. The Fram filter did not cross over to it (didn't even find it) but this filter should be the same, it goes inline just like the other one.

Nope, not the same at all. Different size, different shape, different fittings (hose nipples instead of threaded flare fittings...

...and no longer available from Wix.

ok, well one more option we have is to get the dimensions of the filter and look through their pictorial catalog, we would need the relief setting, fitting style, working pressure, length, width, the usual stuff.

the filter section of the totalsource catalog has a partial listing here: http://www.smhco.com/catalog.html the rest of the suppliers are listed at irmn.com which is a secure site, and no I would be in deep sh** if I passed the password out, they have logfiles. But I will look there when I get a chance.

That is weird.

What is that, a #4 SAE 45* flare?

What is the working pressure, say about 50 PSI?

That doesn't look like it's built for much of a flow rating, so I don't know what the industrial aftermarket would offer as a replacement, I might have to try a filter for stationary machinery. Packaging equipment perhaps?

I dunno, you may have to settle for JIC fittings and french-fit them, but I might be able to get something dimensionally close.

Well I'm not going to use this one, so if anyone needs it let me know. The new trans I am putting into the car already has the later style dacron filter and pan sans drain plug, so this one is here for the taking.

Or I can return it to the parts store. I'll hang on to it for a bit in case someone needs it.

Not sure what the fitting is on it. I can take a pic of the one currently installed in my car, if that's helpful?

What did it cost you? Maybe you should hang on to it as a reference for all of us, if not a trophy.

No, Im pretty sure it's SAE 45* flare, just not sure on the size.

That thing looks like a nuclear attack sub, so forget me finding a visually identical replacement, though there's a TCM filter that looks close. Whatever I do find will probably be the wrong color, or shape, or might need adaptor fittings to install. A novel, functional replacement, if anything.

it wasn't all that expensive, if one of the last ones available. as you can see the box wasn't exactly in "new" shape after probably being hiddne away in a corner. I'm just counting all the pennies right now trying to get the money squireled away for the upgrades. I probably will return it, then regret it, then do penance for my sins...its the way of things!
